Mwahahahahaha! Not quite the longest break between reports, but it'll do.

Breaking news that Daniel Inouye has died. Though he was old and in hospital it's still a shame to hear IMO, I had much respect for his service during WWII.

His wife Irene has died at 71

Been going through current and past members of House of Lords still alive. I had to remove a lot of people in their 80's because list was getting too long:

L = Left HOL/retired since 2014 when HOL reform act came into place and are still living since April 2019.

  • Baron Michael Shaw - 99 (L)
  • Baronees Pamela Sharples - 97 (L)
  • Baroness Jill Knight - 96 (L)
  • Baron Henry Plumb - 95 (L)
  • Baron Francis Tombs - 95
  • Baron Norman Macfarlane - 94 (L)
  • Baron Tony Christopher - 94
  • Baron John Eden - 94 (L)
  • Robert Lindsay, 29th Earl of Crawford - 93 (L)
  • Baron David Stoddart - 93
  • Viscount William Lloyd George - 92 (L)
  • Baron Bertram Bowyer - 92
  • Baronees Trixie Gardner - 92
  • Baron James Mackay - 92
  • Baron Terence Higgins - 92 (L)
  • Baron John Sainsbury - 92 (on leave of absense)
  • Baron Stanley Clinton-Davis - 91 (L)
  • Baroness Sally Oppenheim-Barnes - 91 (L)
  • Baron Nicolas Rea - 91
  • Baron Bill Rodgers - 91
  • Baron Dick Taverne - 91
  • Baroness Betty Boothroyd - 90
  • Baron Rodney Elton - 90
  • Baron David Craig - 90
  • Baron Doug Hoyle - 90
  • Baron David Nickson - 90
  • Baron Tony Lloyd - 90 (L)
  • Lady Flora Fraser - 89 (L)
  • Lord John Prescott - 81 (recently had a stroke)

Why are there people in their 90's making decisions on laws in HOL?

Been very quiet since. I did ask about last November but the question was ignored, so, you never know. (Although hopefully not, Prescott's one of the few politicians I outright liked.)

As for age, I'd have trusted the wisdom of a nonagenarian Betty Boothroyd or the late Lord Carrington over pretty much all of the Cameron, May, Johnson and Corbyn front benches!

Lady Saltoun has pretty much retired from public life now and her daughter is running the show. The family seat is about 4-5 miles from where I live (Fraserburgh was founded by her ancestors) but Flora herself is now retired somewhere in Deeside.

Nothing to suggest she’s at death’s door; just suffering from the usually fragility of being 90.

I think he should be on next years list just so they can use the headline 'Tombs in the Tomb' when he dies !

What were the odds they’d all be named Baron like that?  Incredible!

As a child I used to marvel at how all judges had the forename "Justice".  Mr Justice Davies, Mrs Justice Robinson and so on.  Their parents must have had extraordinary foresight, I thought.

I'm afraid this discussion was moot before it began.

Francis Leonard Tombs, Baron Tombs of Brailes died on 11th April, according to this death notice: http://announcements.telegraph.co.uk/deaths/240863/tombs-francis-leonard-(lord-tombs-of-brailes)

Second of my subs to go on the DDP.

Edit: Actually third, Peter Hobday, Zoe Caldwell and Hugh Rossi.

Rick Jones from Fingerbobs better watch his back!

One of those I never even considered me for "get them on the DDP" spots as I had assumed someone in all those political theme teams must have him. But they don't!

Yep, that's why I had him as a sub. Rossi's wife died oh maybe 15 months ago, since then on my watch list.

Time has run out on that watch!

Anyhow, still waiting on a news source before clunking him off the masterlist of politicians.

British politicos tend to expire circa 92-97 no matter how robust they were before. Well, unless they are Ronald Atkins of course, who is probably more famous now for his age than anything he did or said in parliament!

As a matter of interest does anyone happen to know if there's a list of currently oldest living MPs anywhere?I drew up one of MPs over 90   a while back but it only got as far as Ben Ford who was no 29 on the list but is now the 7th oldest as most have died .Hugh Rossi was too young to be included !
