Recommended Posts

Just wanted to wish everybody a happy Easter.

Before anybody complains and RUINS THE HOLIDAY FOR EVERYBODY, I just wanted to point out we do have threads for a bajillion other holidays. ;)

100 years, and at the going down of the Sun, we will remember them.

Yes, because the past 100 years have proved the Easter Rising to be resounding success.

Depends on your definition of success I suppose.

Fewer deaths compared to the 100 years before, the 100 years before that, the 100 years before that, the 100 years before that etc etc, violence confined to these shores/Gibralter as opposed to North America, Australia and mainland Europe.

I can understand your confusion.

I feel sorry for Saturday, all the other days over the course of the long holiday weekend have a 'special' name except Saturday.

I don't get the whole easter gism anyway but why no special name?

Isn't it "Easter Saturday"?

Holy Saturday or Black Saturday, if I remember correctly.

I have never even heard it called easter Saturday and I have been around for a while.

Oh, I have.  For one thing, it's always been a popular day for weddings and it's common to hear people talk about getting married on Easter Saturday.

Perhaps you are right that it's not officially named, but in common parlance that's how most people refer to it.
