Imelda 626 Posted January 2, 2018 I think this acting legend is now deserving of his own thread, based on the following from the FT in November 17 and due to the fact I have him on my Nags Head DP10 as well! Gatiss recognises someone at the door to the restaurant, a frail figure in a wheelchair, wearing a beanie. It’s Ian Holm, the 86-year-old actor who just three years ago was appearing as Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit films. “He was brilliant,” says Gatiss, transfixed. https://www.ft.com/content/51d3c7e4-c8c2-11e7-ab18-7a9fb7d6163e He seems to now be in permanent retirement and IMBD lists no roles since the aforementioned Hobbit in 2014. Like Alan Rickman, I suspect many people will only realise just how fantastic an actor he was after he has departed.

msc 18,536 Posted June 19, 2020 Oh damn. In terms of a legend passing, and in terms of the DL skipping him over.

TomTomTelekom 3,731 Posted June 19, 2020 A great loss, after a long and respected career. The first time I saw him was in the best (imo) version of Les Miserables, where he played the innkeeper Thenardier. It was a 3 1/2 hour TV movie from 1978. His IMDb page shows he was in many more films than we usually think of. RIP, Sir!
