Supposedly died on 28th September 2017 (aged 100). Unsourced but probably true. Japanese article from November 2017 that refers Jiro Tanaka as the "recently deceased". So yes, he died indeed die 6 years ago. Now, can anyone solve the other one? WWII flying ace Makoto Ogawa (wiki, b. 1917). He was also born in 1917. Definitely living circa 2001.
Imhotep 34 Posted September 14, 2023 Does anyone know whether the author and screenwriter James Gordon White is still alive? He was active in the field of exploitation films with titles like The Glory Stompers, The Mini-Skirt Mob and The Devil's 8 between 1967 and 2004. His final publication may have been the western novel Barbary Coast Gundown in 2006. I cannot find any dates/place of either birth or death.

This is his wife, and based on public records, he was born on February 2, 1940, so he'd only be 83 now. (I looked him up when he was mentioned on here previously a few months ago. And hey, searching suggests that was also you, so here you go.)

Spade_Cooley 9,527 Posted October 5, 2023 Not 100% off the radar but I only just found out that Peter Corey died in 2019. His "Coping With..." series of books was absolutely massive among children around the turn of the 90s, always a popular choice when the book fair rolled into school. There were even several BAFTA-winning TV series based around them. But his death was apparently only reported by local press in Thanet, and even then they focussed more on the fact he ran the local pub quiz. Bizarre. 1

He was best-known for appearing in Alfred Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt, 1943 (which leaves Edna May Wonacott the last surviving cast member of one of my favorite Hitchcock films). This guy is probably still alive, actually. It seems that whoever added January 1935 as his DOB to IMDb probably just picked a similar-seeming "Bates" who was about the right age from the California birth index, and the editor who wrote his Wiki page copied it, but the problem is that "Charles Bates" was a stage name (which his article notes already). Here is the right birth record: Name Charles Edward Perry Sex male Birthdate 10/22/1934 Birthplace Los Angeles County, California Mother's Maiden Name Bates Based on public records, he lives in the Spokane area in Washington. So while the guy IMDb was claiming to the actor is indeed dead, the actual man himself isn't. 1

And it would be weird if she died of Radar and the Daily Mail then pretended they didn’t know the mother of one of their senior journalists had died without them knowing about. I could see him and the rest of his family keeping it quiet till after the funeral but after that the news will get out.
