Toast 16,140 Posted April 10, 2020 19 hours ago, Youth in Asia said: Just in: 765 new coronavirus deaths confirmed in England. NHS England confirmed the new count, adding that 140 occurred on April 8 while 568 took place between April 1 and April 7. The remaining 57 deaths occurred in March, including two on March 19 and one on March 16. This is very confusing - so these are not actually daily totals at all?? Yes. Could somebody please explain what these figures actually mean?

I think the gist is basically: the on the day figure is of those who have tested positive for Corona. Every sudden death in a hospital or care home has to go through various checks which take a week or two, and many of those are being picked up as Corona-related postmortem.

Not always - some hospitals are taking days to report all the confirmed Corona deaths.

So it's "all the new ones that we've heard about in the last 24 hours"?

This game is reliant on the overnight figure. The bigger numbers that come out later is the consolidated figure. The press often talk up the former whilst the latter is far more instructive. You can't really play a game like this waiting for the final official figures though.
Toast 16,140 Posted April 10, 2020 So is there anywhere an actual list of numbers who died on specific days? Just curious.
Paul Bearer 6,102 Posted April 10, 2020 Today's (last 24 hours) official numbers
TQR 14,396 Posted April 10, 2020 953 then. I’ll stick with 1,014 for the next day. We haven’t peaked yet.
Toast 16,140 Posted April 10, 2020 But that figure is deaths reported in a day, yes? They haven't all died on the same day?
The Old Crem 3,605 Posted April 10, 2020 Sat 961. (I think rises over Easter will be lower due to less administrators to submit the data.)
paddyfool 379 Posted April 10, 2020 I knew I should have guessed a bit higher as soon as I made my last post... Sat

Yes, but you can bet your bottom dollar that, though some of the 953 weren't from the past day, some deaths yesterday weren't counted in that figure. It probably still is a representative approximation.
