Think it's highly likely we Brits will lose Philip and or Queen this year. But the main thing probably will be the recession. And that will hit me next year with local government in UK on its knees.

This is just the start. Life isn't going back to how it was before. Charging to collect your bins, mandatory carrying of mobile phones and the move to scrap money and go towards a cashless society . These are all things the government has thought about or trialled in recent years. I expect them to be brought in this year or next year .

 

First big step towards cashless society will be all the bank branches and free cash machines closing.

Judging by how busy banks have been (and without most over 70's even visiting them) Cashless is going to be a while off.

The over 70's mostly still use cash and are pretty powerful still.

I like cash.  I like the special 50p and £2 coins that commemorate various things.  (The circulated ones, not the ones the Royal Mint produce for sale to collectors.)

They make nice (cheap!) gifts for children, and babies if you can find one with the year of their birth.

It brings a little spark of interest to my day when I get change, looking to see if there's one I haven't got.  I miss that.

Agree to a cashless society. In two months I've taken a single tenner out the bank only because I had to go to a launderette to get my uniform dry in a hurry and needed some pound coins.

 

Rest all card and mostly contactless at that. 

 

In terms of my job and team- everything is on the table. The ideas dismissed as being too politically hot suddenly are at the forefront. So charging for bins, library I can see being discussed.

And y'know what? I reckon it will be all good when this pandemic is over. People will appreciate the things they took for granted, for example maybe people will choose to go outside more often instead of being stuck indoors watching TV or arguing with strangers on Deathlist etc... I honestly think we will never live in the same way again. I think handshakes will start slowly becoming a thing of the past and everyone will be far more wary of germs.
