24 HOURS IN THE DEATH OF A WOMAN 20 (TWENTY!)/50 19th October 2017 Acclaimed French actress Danielle Darrieux has died at the old age of 100, to give The Crowdsourced Deathlist yet another success. A massive star in her native France, Danielle Darrieux's acting career started in 1930 and continued into her 80s. She became known in America for roles in Rich, Young and Pretty and Alexander the Great, and replaced Kate Hepburn in a Broadway musical about Coco Chanel. She made many films in France, and infamously 24 Hours in the Life of a Woman was to headline the Cannes festival cancelled in 1968 due to the mass civil unrest in France. In 2007, she was the voice of the grandmother in Oscar nominated animated film Persepolis. Darrieux made her Deathlist debut in a creditable 28th place, and is the twentieth hit of the year, a result only previously seen by the legendary Italian Deathlist, which has far more names. There can be no arguments that this has been a staggeringly successful year for the Crowdsourced Deathlist.

Booker Prize winning author not Deathlisty? I'd say she is. I've known of her for years, despite not having read any of her books, including the one you mention. Very recently I did read one - The House In Norham Gardens. I read it because it is set in Oxford, and I think we're all drawn to books about places we know. It was really disappointing though - nothing really happens, and apart from a fleeting visit to the Pitt Rivers Museum, there was not much sense of being in Oxford.

Also, iirc yer high points for her have made her a Crowdsourced hit, so I'm away to fix that.

Recently intervied on R4 Today programme. Very alert no indication of any lingering condition. Yes he should be on the radar but I think he will make 90.

John Le Carre. 86 today! One of Britain's most successful authors John Le Carre turns 86 today and I think he's reaching an age, such is his fame, that he should at least be on the committees radar for consideration even vaguely!

Speaking of Bernard Hepton many happy returns to him 92 today! A good name to put in the mix for consideration next year too.

I’m sorry, but Carrington is the last surviving major cabinet from Ted Heath’s time as prime minister, Jill Gascoine is an actress who is very well known in the UK, and King Michael is the last surviving world leaders in the interwar period and one of the last surviving leaders from WW2. Hm. All three of these plus Downie has an argument to be made of being notable...

No word on her health, and she's not very Deathlisty, but it'd be cool to see Penelope Lively make the list one year. I swear there was a point where it seemed everyone I bumped into had had to read The Ghost of Thomas Kempe for school, and that's going over a few decades worth age differences there.

I really like the NYT obits. Lady Lucan, Zuzana Ruzickova, Eberhard Van Der Laan, Ralphie May...pretty eclectic.

Wolde-Girogis kinda reminds me of a black Wilford Brimley.

As I once fielded an economics Theme Team, I keep an eye on economists. Here are some Nobel Laureates on a picture: https://news.stanford.edu/thedish/2017/10/15/a-nobel-moment-in-honor-of-the-late-kenneth-arrow/

First Lady Bess Truman died on this day 35 years ago. She holds the record for longest lived First Lady of the United States, clocking in at 97 years old when she passed away.

LFN just needs to stop posting selfies. That would solve the problem.

He had a similar turn last year IIRC, which led to me adding him to my list at the Nags and wasting a pick. Won't get fooled again, the guy is a medical miracle...
