8 pointsNot gonna lie, I've done little other than sleep, eat, work and handle this site since December 20th. I am very, very ready for a day spent watching "205 Live" and playing Football Manager 2019. I haven't played any FM in six weeks, my computer probably thinks its been sold to someone else.

4 pointsMy old man is a bit better. He has been shifted to a regular ward, is breathing with nasal cannula only and has even got up from bed to eat some (awful) soup. Still his condition is serious. Sunday night I spent the night in hospital with him, as I did some other day. In his room there were a 93-year old man I did not know and a 104-year old man who is considered a sort of legend here. Around midnight I reckoned the 93-year old guy was not breathing at all and woke up his daughter. The man had passed away, so nurses came to take him to the morgue. They were quite loud so both my father and the 104-year old man woke up. While my father didn't give a damn, the 104 guy was terrorized: he hid his face under the blankets and looked away for all the time, visibly trembling. Maybe he thinks he is so old Death has forgotten him and will live forever, but I assure you I was so astonished by his extreme naivety.

3 pointsDon't fack with my image, you're a down to earth, no nonsense Scottish fisherman. Away we ye Norse and Gaelic (Mannannnan can't even spell it, nevermind visualise it) bullshyze. The pic wuz gud. But if ye start down the lunatic mystic path, I'm lost. ETA: Jayzuz. 99 posts between this and what I was replying to and it was only a few hours ago. Fack it, figure it out for yourselves.

3 pointsA random stat, there are an incredible 140 teams on the 2019 roster who have now entered the DDP for ten or more years. Two teams, one of them @drunkasaskunk, have been at it for over twenty years. I didn't count, but there are also many, many teams entering for the eighth or ninth time. Very impressive brand loyalty and a level of return business that some websites would kill for.

2 pointsI've spent most of that time wondering who the well known political figure was, not many options! Bit of a sod for them if it were Ted Heath! Here's a bit on the 2000 winner.

2 pointsOk, Sir Creep, he is not dead. Anyway the team of doctors who were treating him has been ousted by another, higher, team of doctors. This comes as the Seer is not recovering properly: though complications from surgery which were affecting his liver have ended (mind you, doctors never said he was suffering from them before!) infections on lungs persists and it seems his body is not able to produce enough blood cells. He is not able to breathe on his own even for a few seconds and is getting 600 mL of "water" drained from lungs every day (two weeks ago it was only 200 mL every two days). I conclude this futile update with a new photo of the man.

2 pointsI'm confused. Not an unusual state of affairs for me. I've never posted on this board under another name. Do you think I'm Charon? I'm flattered, but no, I'm afraid not. I am the person who plays the Derby Dead Pool under the Charon's Crew name. This is my third year of playing, although I followed it as a non player for many years. I've been posting here since around the time I started playing it. Until this year, I had only one team, although this year I've also entered a theme team. But I've been around, even if unnoticed. I picked Jessica Falkholt last year, and commented to you about it back then. As Handrejka pointed out, (thanks Handrejka!), Charon is the ferryman of the dead, so it's an understandable coincidence. I was originally going to call my team Charon's Passengers, but then I liked Charon's Crew more. I didn't know there was already a user named Charon when I joined, but I wasn't surprised when I found out.

1 pointOnce the tumour spreads Your life is just a thing of the past It was my first thought when I read the news of her cancer "returning"* in 2017. (*of course, technically, it never went away; but was just not clinically apparent for about 20 years).

1 pointVerna Bloom is a hit in the Kevin Bacon group for me and @time both getting a second hit and opening the scoring for 2019. 1 pointThank you for doubling down on your stupidity You may be a little on the older side so your cognition may not be what it used to be so I'll spell it out for ya Step 1: go to the page where you'd be able to see all picks Step 2: do as I previously mentioned Step 3: Ta-da! And since I'm in such a good mood (and since Spade doesn't seem to have much issue with it) here's the link http://www.derbydeadpool.co.uk/deadpool2019/teams.html

1 point^^^was waiting to see how long until someone caught that. So all that's left to do is change 84 celebrities' ID codes so they stop appearing out of alphabetical order, and readd team descriptions. And quintuple-check for 2018 deaths that have slipped through. This is the home straight.

1 pointDr. Lewis L. Judd, who as the country’s top mental health official helped put in place the so-called Decade of the Brain, an ambitious research agenda focused on brain biology as the key to understanding and treating psychiatric problems, died on Dec. 16 in San Diego. He was 88. His death, at an assisted-living facility, was confirmed by his wife, Patricia Judd, a professor in the department of psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego, of which Dr. Judd was chairman for decades. She said the cause was cardiac arrest. SC

1 pointCharon is the ferryman of Hades according to Greek myth, so I don't think it's impossible that two individual users have taken inspiration from that when choosing a name for a forum called deathlist.

1 pointGoogle, mostly! Although obscure is not a requirement. Willz beat Captain Chorizo (a Derby Dead Pool runner up in 2016) last year via Ken Dodd. iirc Sir Creep advanced one round via Rev Billy Graham. So the permanent A-listers can be just as crucial as Tania Dalton (TV presenter) or Marsh Pratley (though he was crucial because he lived).

1 pointThe Seer is said to be recovering well and chanting Vedas in his celeastial voice. Meanwhile I want to share this pic of the Man in his 70s. welcoming Indira Gandhi at the Mutt.
