8 pointsGrave Pyres Celebrity chef Dave Myers has died of cancer at the age of 66. Best known as half of the "Hairy Bikers" – for Americans on the forum, that's basically the British version of Sons of Anarchy – along with Si King, he presented 37 different shows over 20 years; 34 of which had "Hairy" in the title, and 31 "Bikers". Non-fans of food/hair/cancer may also remember him for his lovably hapless run on series 11 of Strictly Come Dancing. Despite lasting several weeks in the contest, he remains Karen Hauer's worst-scoring partner, with an average score of 18.3 – narrowly followed by fellow celebrity chef Simon Rimmer on 18.5. Myers also has the honour of being the 1st member of the series 11 cast to die – narrowly followed by Tony Jacklin (2025, lymphoma), Sophie Ellis-Bextor (2026, murdered on the dancefloor), and Rachel Riley (2027, IDF friendly fire incident). It looks like 27 Inverse Dead Pool players saw him in those Knorr ads, thought "well, he's not dead there", and put him on their teams. One player who put too much stock in him is @maryportfuncity, who earns 23 points – the same total that Dave and Karen got for their highest-scoring Strictly dance, a waltz to 'Take It to the Limit' by the Eagles. Also taking it to the limit is @The Unknown Man, who gets 21 points – perhaps he didn't know which man he was picking? Things are also looking hairy for two 18-pointers: @BuffaloPhil (as seen dreading this update above), and my mother, whose tactic of allocating points on the basis of "aw, he seems nice" sees her back in the running for last place, with a total of 34 points. However, between this and Toby Keith, former 3rd-placer @diego is badly led astray by his apparent faith in celebrities being well enough to keep doing their jobs: 19 points on Myers takes him to a total of 36. 6 pointsTinie Tempah — Written In The Stars I don't really care about this one tbh. There are a few other songs in this round that do the same thing and, off the top of my head, "Love the Way You Lie" by Eminem and Rihanna. Olly Murs — Dance With Me Tonight Meghan Trainor's "Dear Future Husband" from 2015 sounds suspiciously similar to this one, and is a much worse song. Rihanna — Only Girl (In The World) Produced by Stargate, this one still holds up. Rihanna's red hair era was a big deal. Karaoke favourite of women who think loud=good. Jessie J ft. B.O.B — Price Tag Jessie J was clearly so bored of this song's popularity that she had to make it interesting to herself, so she would pepper live performances with quirky noises. Tinie Tempah — Pass Out Insane for a debut single. As an American you might know Labrinth more for the Euphoria soundtrack, but he was pushing the envelope in the UK mainstream a decade earlier. "I've been Southampton, but I've never been to Scunthorpe" is a classic quote. DJ Fresh ft. Sian Evans — Louder It's dubstep and D&B in one song, I don't know what you want me to say!!! I used to worship the ground DJ Fresh walked on. No one is agreeing with me though. Owl City — Fireflies Did you know Taylor Swift wrote one of her most beautiful love songs, Enchanted, about a single meeting with this guy, and he did a response song which mentioned her by name, and she never responded? Something something autism. I would simply kill myself. B.O.B ft. Hayley Williams — Airplanes The pop-rap/scene crossover for the ages. Taio Cruz — Dynamite Legendary! One of the least British-sounding songs by a British artist, which is why it's so transcendent. Iyaz — Replay God bless anyone whose iPod was stuck on replay in 2010, because they wouldn't be able to Google it. An instantly-dated line. Flo Rida ft. David Guetta — Club Can't Handle Me In my school's music class, there was keyboard/piano sheet music for this song, and my very white and nerdy music teacher would savour reading out "cluB can'T hanDle mE". Scouting For Girls — This Ain't A Love Song Scouting for Girls' 2007 debut was a bit before my time. I remember alcoholic uni lads and ditzy Ford Ka girlies, i.e. my older cousins, loving them. This is one of their less obnoxious efforts, but I'd suggest Love How It Hurts is their best. Adele — Someone Like You One of the best awards show performances of all time (OF ALL TIME) I know I posted the shit radio performance of "Chasing Pavements" but she has always been a powerful and emotive singer, and it all comes together here. Should be in the final, fight me. Example — Changed The Way You Kiss Me Example was hot shit in 2010/11. You had to be there. I heard this song for the first time when I was in Blockbuster for the last time. I still think the production on this is really good and ignore the lyrics. Also this song is in my narrow baritone range which I appreciate. Bruno Mars — Just The Way You Are I remember the first time I heard this, it was really nice. Future married couples soon caught on. Olly Murs ft. Rizzle Kicks — Heart Skips A Beat I thought Rizzle Kicks were really cool in 2011. I even bought white trainers and got grass stains on them because I heard it in a song. Not sure how much talent they had beyond being in the right place at the right time (which is an Olly Murs song coincidentally). David Guetta ft. Chris Willis — Gettin' Over You LMFAO were truly the party rockers of all time. Weird song if you think about it. B.O.B ft. Bruno Mars — Nothin' On You B.o.B. is a flat-earther now...

6 pointsHe was something more than just a veteran. He was one of the last flying aces of WW2, and the last living American triple ace. German ace Hugo Broch, born exactly a week before him, survives him, and still seems to be doing well. I can't think of other notable aces from WW2 left at the moment, though surely someone more is still there. EDIT: Perry J. Dahl (wiki) minor but still alive at 101.

Also Susana Baca has been finally discharged, so +10 points for deadsox, Hell, ThereWillBeDeaths7, Captain Chorizo and GuyFromFuture. Yuriko, Susana Baca and Nelson Acosta have spent 10 days more in hospital, so +5 points for a lot of people. 3 pointsThe 2024 DL has now fallen behind the 2017 DL and 2019 DL, becoming the slowest performing yet, since 2015. Jonnie Irwin & Frank Field should have risen the total up to 5; they were unnecessary misses, no others to put in that category so far this year.

3 pointsHim, Gossett and Corman shuffling off is a drag. You've all been spared many annoying posts from me in the fall where I argue passionately for them to be on next year's list. Also, probably the last guy I would have expected death confusion over. Guessing someone broke an embargo based on TMZ and THR both posting the same statement.

1 pointIn a world of much uncertainty, there are two things us deathlisters can take for granted. One is that Jimmy Carter is "coming to the end" and this may be James Whale's "Last Christmas".
-
1 pointYes, because there was no point in voting negatively for the first place song, as it always got more points and I liked the second place song (Gorillaz), and if you look at the 3 places you'll see that you alternated between 2 songs basically, both of which I didn't. I liked it and didn't want it to stay there
