Luckily the female voices are much more represented in the second half of the 70's: Tammy Wynette, ABBA, Tina Charles, (Brotherhood of Man), Kiki Dee, Pussycat, Julie Covington, (Manhattan Transfer), Deniece Williams, Donna Summer, Baccara, Althea & Donna, Kate Bush, Boney M., Olivia Newton-John, Blondie, Gloria Gaynor, Anita Ward, (Buggles), Lena Martell and the Bee Gees.

Oh no Lena Martell!!!!!

I think that might vanish faster than Tie A Yellow Ribbon

I see what you did there!

Not going to lie, I bloody love The Bee Gees. And Blondie. And ABBA. And Boney M and Kate Bush are nae bad either.

Yes and would still defend it but my parents went out and bought the Lena Martell single

Though I do prefer the Marc Bolan interpretation of the Dawn song: Tie a Purple Mini round an Old oak tree

The second half of the decade is much much better

And I would not be averse when we are done with the seventies to passing on into the Eighties - the peak of good music

I'm totally with msc and Bibliogryphon!

The last 4 years will be very very hard for me to vote down. No Slade in there, you know :D

Heh :)

Some variety on the perennial "what was Marc Bolan's last hit?"

My very favs of the Blondie and ABBA #1s are in 80/81 so when we get to the 80s there's gonna be some tough choosing for me!

I actually heard that song for the very first time the other week. Late at night I shoved on the Top of the Pops for 1979 on BBC4 and that was the Number 1. Fair to say I was nonplussed it was Number 1. Earlier in the episode Janet Brown sang 'The Iron Lady' which was much better.

Think I'm saving myself for the late 70s, so much good music to come, but already the list of songs from 70-73 to not reach #1 is criminal, I can't imagine what injustices lie ahead. I may throw a vote or two in as we get to the business end of this round, but we'll see.

I quite like Alone Again (Naturally) for its black comedy, but that's about it for Gilbert.

His treadmill tunes plod round and round without ever getting anywhere.  That is the song I hate more than any other ever.  Fucking dirge.
