Lets not forget, "Knock Three Times" is not Dawn's worst number one of the decade.

I think on comparison with the eligible songs, it was always going to die.

I do like singing it.

Folk like Rod and Slade have better songs to come...but I will refrain from trying to influence the votes. ;)

For the sake of my sanity I won't "catch up" on the points and just continue with the daily as it could mess up everyone else. Just need to remember the point system:

33 Freda Payne – Band of Gold
31 Edison Lighthouse – Love grows (where my Rosemary goes)
26 Smokey Robinson & The Miracles – Tears of a Clown
26 Rod Stewart - Maggie May
25 Jimi Hendrix Experience – Voodoo Chile
25 Matthews Southern Comfort - Woodstock
25 Dave Edmunds – I hear you knocking
25 Dave & Ansil Collins – Double Barrel
24 T.Rex – Get it on

23 George Harrison - My Sweet Lord  +4
24 Simon & Garfunkel – Bridge over troubled water
20 Diana Ross – I´m still waiting
20 The Tams – Hey girl, don´t bother me
20 T.Rex – Hot love
20 Dana – All kinds of everything
20 Benny Hill - Ernie (The fastest milkman in the west)
19 Mungo Jerry – Baby Jump
19 Lee Marvin - Wanderin` Star
17 Christie - Yellow River
15 Dawn – Knock three times

14 Elvis Presley – The wonder of you -6
11 Slade – Coz I luv you
03 Norman Greenbaum – Spirit in the sky
03 Mungo Jerry - In the summertime

I'm going to boost George Harrison as much as I can.

I just stumbled across the results of the German No. 1-Voting 1970/1971 (from July 2015!). It cannot be compared to our UK voting, because there are mostly different No. 1 songs, but „In the summertime“ also wasn't very popular.

In addition, I would like to point out that „Paranoid“ and „Whole lotta love“ were No.1 hits in Germany in 1970! Very very cool! And I really like „Rose Garden“ as the forum's favorite song from 70/71. All in all this song finished 5th in the Grand Finale!!!

01. Lynn Anderson - Rose Garden
02. Daniel Gérard - Butterfly
03. Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love
04. Norman Greenbaum - Spirit in the Sky
05. Peter Maffay - Du
06. Black Sabbath - Paranoid
07. The Soulful Dynamics - Mademoiselle Ninette
08. Frijid Pink - House of the Rising Sun
09. George Harrison - My Sweet Lord
10. The Sweet - Co-Co
11. Pop Tops - Mamy Blue
12. Creedence Clearwater Revival - Hey Tonight
13. Roy Black - Dein schönstes Geschenk
14. Simon & Garfunkel - El Condor Pasa (If I Could)
15. Peret - Borriquito
16. Miguel Rios - A Song of Joy
17. Mungo Jerry - In the Summertime

None of Led Zeppelin's songs were released as singles in the UK until 1997, at the bands request. (It boosted their gig and album revenue considerably, apparently.0

Well, her own fault. "Whole lotta love" would certainly have been a No.1 song in the UK as well, I guess.

It used to be the norm that songs released as singles weren't included on albums.  Not sure when that shifted, but once it did it must have affected the charts as people who bought the albums usually didn't buy the single as well.

Although the first single release was always more intended as an appetizer for the upcoming album... that's how I always saw it. Of course there are exceptions. Some acts were certainly more album sellers than singles sellers, Pink Floyd is definitely one of them (with the exception of "Another brick in the wall").

They first came to my attention with See Emily Play.  They were on Top of the Pops!

I think Arnold Layne was a single too.

Yes.

Would have been great if echoes had been...

"And now on top of the pops....'The Pink Floyd' with a catchy little tune entitled Echoes".

One song later...

"And that's all we have time for folks! See you next week when our first spin will be Led Zeppelin with a brief composition called 'Dazed and Confused'"

Let me know if I've got this wrong at all - I'm not amazing with numbers!

Incidentally, I really like "Spirit in the Sky". I think it's a great record but I imagine everyone's just sick of it.

Damn that felt good.

When it dies and they lay it to rest

Gonna go to the place that's the best
When you lay it down to die
Goin' up to the spirit in the sky
