maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted September 14, 2006 Note the restrained use of capital letters, economy of phrasing and judicious introduction of poor Aunt Tillie I told yers, these ranters from 'The Friendly Islands' would be summat else. It's been a surreal delight to encounter their like. How about we nominate HM the Queen of Tonga for next year's top fifty? More likely to die than Clive Dunn and virtually guaranteed to draw the ranting equivalent of rose petals rather than bullets.

A very quick and sudden change of health fortunes for ol' Mally. After annoying the whole of the Tongalese population, maybe DL could aim for enraging the Samoan bunch

Look man I don't appreciate you disrespecting my king like that. FYI: King Taufa'ahau passed away Sept 11, 12 am Tongan time and He is now lying estate for the world to view him until Tuesday sept 19 for his burial. He was a good man and a great king. maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted September 17, 2006 Indeed our drive by ranter has a point. Found myself watching 'You, Me and Dupree,' today, amiable tosh but no great movie but there is a small part for a massive security guard and at one point Owen Wilson asks him; 'Are you Samoan?' My point, there's a kind of fat stereotype about south sea islanders and it's unfair because some of those involved get fat through depression and frustration, something we see enough in the UK and USA. In the same way the stereotype of mean scots is ironic. It was an image created by the first English tourists who travelled to Scotland by train in the 19th century. They interpreted the lack of shopping and locals flashing their cash as evidence of meanness. Really it says more about the ignorance of those tourists. F**k, I reckon I'm missing my vocation, should be gannin' to the Liberal conference this week, or summat.

maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted September 17, 2006 Not if you're bulimic or a professional athlete it doesn't! Gunjaman5000 30 Posted September 17, 2006 The funeral's tomorrow and will be streamed here. * The King's funeral will take place on Tuesday 19th September - you can watch the funeral streamed live between 12pm to 5pm (approx) right here on Tagata Pasifika's site . The time difference is exactly 12 hours for those of you in Pomgolia, worth getting a few drinks in and staying up late.

Guest Guest Posted September 18, 2006 I'm not of Tongan blood, but I do have family that are Tongan. I have read the many messages or posts that have been left in this forum and it shows how little people from across the world think very little of people from a tiny South Pacific Island. I have much respect for the late KING TAUFA'AHAU IV, not only because he is Royalty and the King of Tonga, but because his predecessors had a history with my own Royal lineage. You all think it fun and exciting to make bets or make it a game to see when someone passes away. You think it fun & games to call another cultures King....fat bugger, time to go, ticker is going etc...but, yet you don't take into account what that culture or what the people from that place thinks for that person. Yes, they called you PALANGI's, which is what they call people of the "Caucasion" race. But to continue to DISRESPECT a ROYAL?? How LOW is that? If anyone in here of SOUTH PACIFIC blood were to do or say what you all were saying if your King or Queen were in the same situation, wouldn't you be PISSED, ANGRY and ready to DEFEND? Come on...you all pick on the South Pacific people too much and give them very little credit. So what? We ALL come from a tiny island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean....does that mean, OUR ROYALITIES don't demand any RESPECT?? Just because you haven't met the person, doesn't mean you can't give them the common courtesy of RESPECT. To the many TONGANS in here, my deepst respect and condolences to the great LOSS of a Great King. He is also joined by another pacific island Royal. So, let the PALANGIS say their words, write what they want, because the people of TONGA and other SOUTH PACIFIC Islanders could really care less. OFA ATU IA KING TAUFA'AHAU TUPOU IV & the people of TONGA!! ~MOTU

Erm, let me think... No. Also no. We may be impolite but we're not all hypocrites. Why should I get angry if someone attacks 'my' Queen? I didn't vote for her, and I'm sure she wouldn't stick up for me if the situation was reversed. Look up 'Spitting Image' on google and see how much us brits defend our royalty, amongst other things. Anyway, I did vote for Tony Blair (well Labour anyway) and I absolutely couldn't give a toss is he gets criticised, and at least he's a legitimate (ish) spokesperson for our country. I don't see how anyone has the right to be above criticism just because of who they are. Except perhaps for Chris Morris. I see very little to admire in people just because an accident of birth made them royal, even if they turn out to be fantastic at whatever being royal entails, work really hard, crusade against the planting of land mines etc. Being royalty these days just means your ancestors were nastier bastards than other people's ancestors and took the power of the land, or do we really still believe in divine right and blue blood? Oh, right, I see. People should only be put on pedestals if they can accept the possibility of being knocked off of them. Kind regards, TLC
