One of the D-Day pieces (maybe Tim Shipman in the Sunday Times) said that Lammy put a lot of groundwork into getting Starmer into the big meetings at D-Day, forming strong relationships with Macron's staff and writing in French academic journals. On the morning after 97, it was thought a fait accompli that Prescott would be Deputy PM, Brown would be Chancellor, Straw would be Home Secretary, Cook would be Foreign Secretary and Derry Irvine would be Lord Chancellor. All were confirmed by late afternoon once Blair was in Downing Street. Would assume similar will happen next Friday. With regard to the more "minor " cabinet posts I would wager Benn will stay at Northern Ireland.
