Greg Lake — I Believe In Father Christmas - when my daughter was in The Brownies the opening salvo of the festive season was the Rainbows/Brownies/Guides/Rangers/Trefoil Guild carol concert at a local church - one year a guide leader thought a rendition of this from the guide troop would make a good addition to the proceedings. I managed to keep a straight face for the performance (almost)

A decade ago, I joined my ex-girlfriend and her mother at a performance by a youth theatre group that her younger (teenage) brother was part of. One of the centrepieces was a group performance of Bucks Fizz's 'Land of Make Believe'. You have never heard a song sung with less sense of wonder and hope than the one that day. I still struggle to hear the song without chuckling to myself.
