RadGuy 1,614 Posted October 31, 2017 Time for my annual rant on trick-or-treaters. Fucking helicopter moms. I live in a very safe neighborhood where people generally know each other. Traditionally, you'd expect this to mean that kids aged 7-8 or older go trick-or-treating without adult supervision, and those over 10-11 would do so after dark. But not in my neighborhood. Kids aged 12 and up still go with their parents. There's often even more adults than kids! Two young trick-or-treaters would be supervised by their mom, dad, grandparents, and Aunt Stacy. Of course, this might be less of a safety issue and more of a "aww look how cute they are let's watch them do this fun childhood activity" issue, but still... let 'em have some fuckin' independence. Trick-or-treating starts at 3:00PM and the last trick-or-treaters are usually gone by 5:30PM - when the sun hasn't even set yet! Parents these days, man. msc 18,477 Posted October 31, 2017 At our old flat, one of our neighbours had a way of dealing with trick or treaters. He shot off fireworks down the street in their direction. That dis-encouraged them.

RadGuy 1,614 Posted October 31, 2018 Halloween gives a nice vibe. The twinkling jack-o'-lanterns are a nice touch to the windy autumn evenings. But I had a pretty bad holiday this year. Missed out on the parties over the weekend. Tonight I'll probably spend the afternoon handing out candy to the young'uns. Which - as I rant every year - will be from 4 till 6 because my neighborhood doesn't know how to fuckin' trick-or-treat properly, i.e. after dark. On to Thanksgiving... charon 4,943 Posted October 31, 2018 I'll be sitting with the lights out whilst draining a box of red, but in the eventually of some young fucker knocking on the door , I've dug out some of my newer tools.

Toast 16,140 Posted October 31, 2018 I'm still working on our pumpkin. A graveyard theme this year. The kids don't normally come up our road as there's no pavements, but there is a nice little lad who lives opposite who will probably come over. Down in the middle of the village there are floating pumpkins on the pond, which always look attractively spooky.
Sir Creep 7,070 Posted October 31, 2018 Happy Halloween to all. It really IS one of my favourite holidays, maybe second to Christmas. This marks the first time ever I will not be able to take my daughter out trick or treating, as I am stuck on a job 250 miles away. And the poor kids where I am (Henderson TX) are going to get hit with 3+ inches of rain starting about 4pm so forget trick or treating this year. I hope it holds off back in Lafayette, LA.
