Godot 149 Posted December 14, 2006 Arise, ye workers from your slumber, Arise, ye prisoners of want. For reason in revolt now thunders, and at last ends the age of cant! Away with all your superstitions, Servile masses, arise, arise! We'll change henceforth the old tradition, And spurn the dust to win the prize! So comrades, come rally, And the last fight let us face. The Internationale, Unites the human race. So comrades, come rally, And the last fight let us face. The Internationale, Unites the human race. That rings a bell Sniff... Those were the days... singing out loud the Internationale at the 1st of may-celebrations with the whole bunch of old-style socialists... It's a shame they don't do that anymore. I downloaded the dutch version, and I was still able to sing along! Ontwaakt, verworpenen der aarde! Ontwaakt, verdoemd in 's hongers sfeer! Ah yes, that totally unsingable translation by Henriette Roland Holst. One must skip a third of the syllables to sing it to the notes. Many years ago I got into a fight with a few members of a choir, who were singing Christian hymns at Rotterdam Central Station. They didn't appreciate my joining in with The Internationale. When asked to stop, I changed to Gimn Sovetskovo Soyuza and they became violent. So much for The Other Cheek. regards, Hein

Gwynhafyr 0 Posted December 15, 2006 The day she dies and goes to hell will be declared a national holiday and there will be street parties and dancing in the streets and quite rightly too. I wouldn't be too sure of that. Yes I suspect there will be a good deal of cheering going on but she was the UK's first female PM and the only one with any balls to take on the unions. Discussions have already taken place about whether she will get a state funeral and the Brits being the Brits will suffer from short memory syndrome and turn out to mourn her in droves. Youth in Asia 1,086 Posted December 15, 2006 Ode to Pinochet To find an appropriate soubriquet, To wish his evil crimes away Was he a monster, or was he OK? Should we give him the time of day? The sun didn't shine while he made hay In cold dark dank 70s Chile Thatcher's pal, but Spain's? No way A saving grace though, some might say. For those who bay for his blue blood Could perhaps look at themselves, and may See something they don't like. And all the mud They sling he'd just throw back. Put them in jail, throw away The key. And then they'd pay, and pray With a thud he'd wack 'em, and they'd crack. Come on punk, make my day. Tie them up - on the rack .... Oh wait, that kind of proves their point. Torture's torture and he had a lack Of compassion, love and all of that. Anyway. To find an appropriate soubriquet, Well I'm certainly no Doctor Dre. Is he Mother Theresa or Reggie Kray? Gandhi, or more like Kenneth Lay? Evil, saintly, good, half way? I'll delay my judgement, God will tell you soon enough, Augusto Pinochet. re: God *Other fictional religious figures are available
Grim_Rita 4 Posted December 15, 2006 When I saw he'd died I was so shocked, after all the years of teasing!! Had the notion he'd faked his own death until I saw him lying in state(not literally of course!) Also I can't believe there's been 13 pages discussing him since his death!! Hopefully his passing will signal the end of this thread and all the political ranting!! Out of all the people on the list, who do u lot think will warrant this much posting when they die? Anubis the Jackal 77 Posted December 16, 2006 the only laugh was setting off 12 year old Argentinian mines with a jimpy( but I got one hell of a bollocking for doing it!) Xenon II 0 Posted December 17, 2006 How many people did Pinochet actually have killed? Oh about a tenth of what Castro's managed, or at least that Castro's murdered that we know about. I don't know why people get so worked up about Pinochet - it was only Communists he killed after all. Exactly! Communists deserve no sympathy. They are a cancer on humanity. It was utterly despicable how he was hounded by leftists during the last few years of his life. So effectively what you're saying is that political murders are totally acceptable, providing it's the "good guys" doing the killing? I'm pretty sure the General didn't personally kill anyone. Xenon II 0 Posted December 17, 2006 Glad he is gone, just feel for the victems they had no justice Yeah, feel for the "victims" who were nothing less than domestic terrorists and enemies of the state. Good riddance! (To them not the General). Now what has happened now Chile has democracy? A feminazi leftist is in charge. Good grief!
Magere Hein 1,400 Posted December 17, 2006 Can't they just dump her corpse in a defunct mine shaft and be done with it?Sounds about right to me. Thatcher, a feminazi and a whore, raped what was left of the Empire, stole our milk and deserves to face justice. The General on the other hand, deserved a state funeral. If by a state funeral you mean dropping his corpse from a Chilean Air Force plane at sea, I agree. regards, Hein

Guest from Chile Posted December 28, 2006 You all know very little about General pinochet´s life. A lot of international newspapers have wrongly accussed him, of being a murderer. But the truth is that pinochet saved his country from communism. He had to face a civil war, and some people died like in any war.
