So Scott Walker died of cancer, according to SPIEGEL Online (probably in some UK sources, too)...

Here's someone I would have liked to read Spade's obituary on!

Brian Travers of UB40 has brain cancer.

About to jump ship to ESA1?

They don't say what kind of tumour it is - but the bucket list talk is ominous.

Also, are UB40 so big that one of the instrumentals gets BBC coverage?

Fucking massive. About twenty top 10 hits and 4 number 1s. Even if of those 4, 1 is dire, 1 is an Andy Williams cover, and 2 are duets with far better performers (Chrissie Hynde/Pato Banton).

Red wine makes me puke, it's dire. Guinness however is lovely, that's food for thought.

:P

There's a one in ten chance that our younger viewers will get any of that.

UB40 were great in the beginning, it's a shame they turned themselves into a covers band.

Gonna be the saddest death of the year for me, unless Harley Race finally goes in 2019.

Thank you...I think.

Discussed on the Jamaican Jamming thread earlier in the year. I don't want to believe it. One of my bands. Also picked Saxa the year he died. Brap In Peace my brother.

Anyhow, as he's a hit for my 1983 TOTP team, here's their UK #3 hit from that year from the 1000 episode of the show:

The Beat (or the English Beat as they had to be known in North American to avoid confusion with a same-named band) never achieved the success across the pond as they did in the UK.  Having said that, Roger's next musical incarnation was General Public, his duo with fellow The Beat member Dave Wakeling.  For my money, this song gets to me every time I hear it.

Both members of the indie duo Her's have died in a car crash along with their tour manager, Trevor Engelbrektson.

Trevor also ran the sound desk at various venues in the MInneapolis / St. Paul area. He did the sound for a few gigs that I was the roadie for a couple of years ago. One for Unknown Hinson, and another for Wayne "The Train" Hancock, to name a few.

Wasn't paying much attention. Mind is on other things. Have a benefit tonight for the family of Her's tour manager, Trevor Englebrektson.
