Robert Dickey

a.k.a. the original "Bobby" from James and Bobby Purify, has died aged 72. Their biggest hit was the extremely irritating "I'm your Puppet" (apparently he didn't even like the song himself!). It got to no. 6 in the US in 1966, being re-recorded and scoring a no. 12 hit in the UK 10 years later, although by then Dickey had left the duo for health reasons and been replaced by a second "Bobby" (actually called Ben Moore).

Has anybody heard anything on Peter Macbeth since he was locked up for kiddy fiddling? They didn't want him incarcerating cos he was that close to death. *cough* allegedly *cough*

He was jailed

Last I heard was that he had 3-4 years left to live. But that was back in 2008

MacBeth, from Trefriw, near Llanrwst, North Wales, said he was downloading the porn as research for a book.

FFS: That defence was good enough for Pete Townsend!

I see Tony Iommi (Sabbath axe man) is unwell

But is he a pop star ?

LINK

He was a founder member but as you say - does that make him a pop star?

Everybody knows Ozzy simply because of who he is but Iommi is really just one of the guys.

Pop and funk musician Jimmy Castor, who was known for his 1972 hit "Troglodyte (Cave Man)", is gone at age 64.

A lot of you might not know who he is and what music he made. Including me for a time. But his music had something in common with the godfather of soul himself, James Brown: His music was sampled to death. If you don't recognize anything in these tracks, you might as well be tone-deaf.

I'm sure there are a lot of samples you recognize from Troglodyte.

Also, It's just begun was also a massive source of samples.

Most notable tracks that used his music were:

Beat dis - Bomb the bass

Pump Up the Volume - M|A|R|R|S

Weekend - The Todd Terry Project

Big hits that had a funk foundation from the Jimmy Castor Bunch.

But you'll really get a sense of his influence when you see the full list of tracks that used his music.

Here are four pages of tracks!

Old age and reggae stars from the classic era appear to be complete strangers. So much for the health-giving properties of 'erb, eh?

And another one. Ring the alarm, Winston Riley is dying dead.

Rocker Ronnie Montrose, dies from prostrate cancer age 64.

Edit to add- He goes on my personal DDP List of the Missed. He made the master list of Ronnies but was not thought a viable candidate.

So those who took exception to Montrose's Jump On It album cover can exact revenge by jumping on his grave.

I was mildly surprised to find that songwriters Richard and Robert Sherman are both still alive in their 80s. The names may not be immediately familiar, but the tunes will be:

The Bare Necessities, I Wanna Be Like You (Oo-oo), Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, Chim Chim Cher-ee, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Truly Scrumptious and, er,

, among others.

Robert's Supercalifragilisticexpialidead.

Damn! I have him and his brother Richard on a long list. Left him off because I couldn't find any health info on him
