Barely the first day of 2020 and we already have a major celebrity death. Although he wasn't a famous athlete, he was just as well known to sports fans as the likes of Michael Jordan and Larry Bird. He served as commissioner to the NBA for 30 years and was seen as the one responsible for transforming the NBA into the global brand it is today. Sports fans are in mourning today.

Sir Creep 7,070 Posted March 2, 2020 Hudson County (FL) has lost a member of its basketball royalty. Alice DeFazio, arguably the county first women’s star player, died on Feb. 25 in Florida. She was 63. A three-time Hall of Famer — Jersey City, Hudson County and Montclair State University — DeFazio was a star at every level of competition. Among her many achievements was helping lead Montclair State to the women’s basketball Final 4 as the starting point guard. Two years later, as a senior, DeFazio was the runner-up for the Wade Trophy — the annual award given to the best player in the nation. SC

time 8,599 Posted May 2, 2020 Its not often you have a choice of basketball thread or Star Wars thread for a death notice, but Mark McNamara, who has died aged 60, presents such an opportunity. A former NBA champion with the Philadelphia '76ers, McNamara stood in for Peter Mayhew during filming when Mayhew had health issues exacerbated by wearing his Chewbacca outfit. Unfortunately for McNamara, none of his scenes made the final cut, as he walked differently from Mayhew.
