Is it wrong that I am starting to find the anticipation for this exciting?! It is going to be such a monumental world event that hasn't happened in the lifetime of most of the population. I also like the fact that we don't know when it will happen: it could be tomorrow, or it could be ten years from now.

 

I am in the same boat. I don't wish death upon her, but when she dies, that will be a HUGE historical day unlike any we've seen in our lifetime, so it does get the heart pumping a bit.

I totally agree! I love the Royal Family and I think the Queen is great, but her insistence to keep her vow of 'working til death' is worrying. She has given a lifetime of work to our country and deserves a good rest in retirement.

Despite the guilded life, she does work every day, on state paperwork and yet is never allowed to show emotion or opinion.

I think the way that lots of things about the R F are never confirmed or denied, leaves people in a constant state of speculation.  For all we know, one of them could have a terminal illness. 

Also, I'm one of those people who loves to know news first... which means when she does go I will be at work, nowhere near my phone and I'll find out hours later.

Some random trivia for you. I was curious to see what percentage of people had known only one monarch in their lives. Here are some very rough figures that give an approximation.

 

As of today, the Queen's been reigning 66 years and 209 days. 

 

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, on June 30 2016 (when the Queen had reigned 64 years and 4 months),  15.3% of Aussies were aged 65 and over, so 84.7% have only known one monarch.

Maybe splitting hairs here, but Aquitaine was a Duchy not a kingdom.  So technically Eleanor was never a queen regnant.
