Dr Hackenslash 25 Posted May 6, 2006 Sorry if this already has a thread, but I could find it, so... From the Daily Mirror 6 May 2006 BOBBY IN CANCER BATTLE NUMBER 3 By Allison Martin FORMER England manager Sir Bobby Robson is battling cancer for the third time, it emerged last night. The 73-year-old had surgery this week to remove a lung tumour. Doctors spotted the growth when he went for an X-ray after injuring ribs during a skiing accident in France. His spokesman said: "He is convalescing and looking forward to getting back to his commitments." The ex-Newcastle United boss was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 1992. Three years later specialists found he had a rare form of mouth cancer and gave him just 18 months to live. He was told to give up his job but battled on and was back at work within three months. Sir Bobby has been treated at the Freeman hospital in Newcastle - which specialises in lung transplants - for his latest tumour. He is recovering at home in County Durham. He has been working as consultant to the Republic of Ireland team since January. Manager Steve Staunton said: "Knowing him as I do he'll be back fighting fit in no time." Octopus of Odstock 2,186 Posted May 7, 2006 Old news & what's more misleading. Here's a more accurate report from a more reliable source: BBC link No word of cancer. Back in January they said there was nothing to worry about, the tumour was malignant.

Dr Hackenslash 25 Posted May 7, 2006 Two things...the BBC report was before all of the facts had been released. And I presume you mean benign...
Octopus of Odstock 2,186 Posted May 7, 2006 Two things...the BBC report was before all of the facts had been released. And I presume you mean benign... Yep, good thing I'm not a Doctor, hey! My ire was at the Mirror, not you, Dr. H. Sir Bobby is not exactly "battling cancer for the third time". It was looked at, removed, and Sir BR is as fit as a fiddle for a man his age. If you read that Daily Mirror report alone, you'd think something quite differently.
Dr Hackenslash 25 Posted May 7, 2006 But the Daily Mirror are wrong for so many reasons. Most of their staff still believe in Socialism, for a start At least Trinity Mirror PLC's new chairman is expected to sell the national papers to invest in the locals. About time, too, the Mirror has been stale for years.

What motivation is there for the intelligent/hard workers if they know all their efforts will just go to benefit the stupid and lazy?

So instead we use an economic system in which the stupid are made to work hard for the intelligent and lazy. It ought to make sense, but I'm afraid I'm too stupid to get it. regards, Hein

Europe would have so much immigration but for people concluding their socio-economic systems are a lot better than what anyone else has on offer I had capitalism in mind, so China is a valid example. On a more serious note: I don't think capitalism and socialism differ much in the way they exploit people. The main difference lies in the way it is decided who exploits whom. regards, Hein
TLC 9 Posted May 9, 2006 So instead we use an economic system in which the stupid are made to work hard for the intelligent and lazy. It ought to make sense, but I'm afraid I'm too stupid to get it. regards, Hein Hey, I'm intelligent (in a general sort of 'no use to anyone' way, but you didn't say wise) & lazy, but I still work. Well I have a job, it's not quite the same thing. Although when I'm at work I always feel I drop a few dozen IQ points on entering the building and vice versa, so that makes me stupid too, meaning I'm an integral part of the current economic system by my reckoning. I am at work at the moment though, so who knows? I did see a Sir Bobby Robson interview on Sky last night, and he looked and sounded fine, just a bit forgetful, so no change there. There, that bit was relevant, even if it contained no news of any worth at all.

Godot 149 Posted August 5, 2006 Robson taken ill at Ipswich match This must make him an obvious candidate for 2007 if he lasts. I don't think he will, somehow
Phantom 2,531 Posted August 5, 2006 He's had a few problems already this year, but the word is The hospital's bed-site manager said his condition was "comfortable". although on the flip-side of the coin The hospital could not give any details about the symptons Robson was suffering with when he was admitted. It is understood the former England manager was accompanied by Dr Hugh Davies, his cancer specialist, who had been a guest of Robson at the match. So it's anyone's guess

Cancer then, I mean, if it was owt else the cancer specialist would have let him go and watched the rest of the game, they were only ten minutes into the first half when Robson called time on himself. If you're joshing with us might you be a former poster - like Iain - in disguise? We await news of your future along with that of the former England manager. That can be determined easily by his IP adress. Just to add - Iain was on the active users list about 10 minutes ago. He seemed to be in the middle of posting in the Deathlist forum, but left no marks.
