The Dead - 2007

Recommended Posts

A couple of footballing deaths to report:

Willie Cunningham, footballer for Northern Ireland, and part of their 1958 World Cup squad, has died, aged 77. He also managed a trio of clubs in Scotland.

Rather spookily, one of the players Cunningham lined up against in 1958 has died a day later, Viliam Schrojf played in three World Cups, and was in the 1962 World Cup Final. He was 76.

PS I am now back from holiday & working on getting a Ruesch obit for the DDP.

I woke up with his sister one morning, went cold down my spine and promptly broke the world record for 100 metres.

Is "Kath" a man?

Please don't check my posts for freudian slips I've been drinking and have lost my sense of irony :dead3:

Well here's one that would have sufficed for the CPDP. At least they're out in English now.

"The King of the Gypsies". Bare knuckle boxing champion Eli Frankham Junior, has died of a heart attack at the age of 43.

At the time of his death he was facing jail for breaching his ASBO, the terms of which asked him nicely:

"Not to threaten or intimidate anyone with intent to cause alarm, harassment or distress within West Norfolk or Wisbech."

Measuring 6ft 8inches tall and weighing in at 21 stones, he was mentioned in the press when he turned up at the trial of Tony Martin, the Norfolk farmer who was convicted of murdering a gypsy. He was escorted from the courtroom by police after twenty minutes for "glowering at the jury in a threatening manner"

Indeed, there's another UK based one, and one on Entertainment Insiders. I think the English media are only now just getting the news via the agencies. I understand from my motor racing sources at the broadsheets that he was on the obituary list (ie when they die, they get an obit), so there may well be one in The Independent or The Times by week's end. Not sure about the Telegraph, however, but only one is needed.

Here's hoping anyway, it would put me fourth if no-one else dies by the time Ruesch gets his obit. :crossbone: Good obit too in the New York Times, but then they do research well.

Actress Miyoshi Umeki has died. She was the first "Asian" actress to win an Oscar, which was the Best Supporting Actress gong for Sayonara in 1957. This launched her onto a long & successful Stateside career as well as in her native country. Umeki was 78 years of age.

Oh bollocks. He was on my DDP 2008 provisional list & was a good hope for an unique pick.

*Sigh*. Not my week DDP wise, but never mind....

Great shame though - another of those famous faces from my childhood gone. :rip:

Whilst on the subject of dead UK and Northern TV actors, Geoffrey Wilkinson, another of those "you know the face..." has died

Bad news for Geoffrey, but good news for any jobbing late-middle-aged thesp who wants to fill the dead mans shoes

A rather callous article , but then every cloud has a silver lining, the show must go on etc. etc. ad nauseam, and of course

Geoffrey would have approved!

Damn, I picked the wrong Emmerdale Farm actor... Mind you, last time I saw Magill interviewed he didn't look too cracking. He should never have married Annie though - it just didn't ring true to me. I can just imagine him and Mr Wilks pulling pints and bickering in the great Woolpack in the sky. RIP

No, because I used the search facility, something you've never done.

Not all deaths are announced straightaway - sometimes the only time the general masses know they're even dead is through a broadsheet obituary, often written by a friend or colleague.

But I don't know why I'm bothering explaining this to you as you won't understand such a complex argument. :rip:

PS to Devil May Care - he died one day before his birthday, as he was born on the 7th, died on the 6th. Even worse, as you don't get any presents! :rip:

Or after persistant pestering by a deathpool entrant whose prime motive is to gain more points in a deathpool competition, say.
