‘Grand National jockey’ is overegging it a touch. He had one ride, in 2014, on a 66/1 shot, which fell at the 8th fence. But yes, he was more of a Grand National jockey than me, and I’m sorry he died so young.

Willie Carson (82 in November) with Giles Brandreth at the Derby today. Carson should hopefully have several more Derby days to enjoy based on this.

Sergeant Cecil was a British thoroughbred racehorse who died at the age of 25. Sold very cheaply as a foal, he was a slow-maturing player who showed normal form in his first four seasons and took fourteen attempts to win his first race. As a six-year-old in 2005 he improved rapidly and completed a unique treble in handicap racing by winning the Northumberland Plate, Ebor Handicap and Cesarewitch Handicap. The following year he made a successful transition to weight-for-age racing, winning the Lonsdale Cup, Doncaster Cup and Prix du Cadran. He was never as good again, but recorded a great final victory in the 2007 Yorkshire Cup

Superstar Leo was a British Thoroughbred champion racehorse, died aged 26, bred in Ireland and retired, and a successful broodmare. She was named European Champion Two-Year-Old Filly at the Cartier Racing Awards and was the highest-rated two-year-old filly in the 2000 International Classification. In her championship season, she won five races and finished second in the other three

Please stop this. There is no need to record the death of every racehorse.

Why not? At least they are about deaths. Unlike the main garbage of KoS, General Election etc which is the mainstay  of this site for months. The death of a famous racehorse or two is a welcome distraction.

The crucial word being 'famous'.

This is just the start of Diego spamming yet another thread, which is being discussed elsewhere.

But maybe he will, in the midst of the lightweights he mentions, reveal to us all what happened to Shergar!

Legendary hurdler Istabraq is 30 today which is the equivalent of about 90 in human years. Looks good as well.

A shame but 32 is a very good age for a horse especially a National Hunt horse. I can only think of Hallo Dandy and Spanish Steps who have lived longer.

Reference was made to Peter Chapple-Hyam the other day "ongoing health challenges" or something to that effect.

Appears as though Alastair Down has passed away. Glad he got to see the Press Room at Cheltenham named in his honour just last week.

Sad news from the world of Irish sport with the death of one of the greats of Irish show-jumping, Captain Con Power.

Three-time Aga Khan winner Capt Con Power dies aged 71 (rte.ie)

Appropriately for the title of this thread,  he was also the father of jockey Robbie Power who won the Grand National on Silver Birch, and the Gold Cup on Sizing John.

I met Con once when my car slid off a snowy road into a ditch opposite his farm a good few years ago.

Nice man, shit tractor.

He wasn't able to pull the car out, so I had to pay a small fortune for a recovery vehicle to come out and extract the car from the ditch.

RIP
