arghton 6,741 Posted June 13, 2021 https://www.facebook.com/MainiokotiJusolanlampi/videos/296765841676215 Here's the video I talked about in Scavenger Hunt... A woman is interviewing 1964 Tokyo 50 Metre Pistol gold medal winner Väinö Markkanen. Some parts of it translated: 0:18 she asks "Väinö, what was your sport" No response. 0:26 she again asks "In what sport did you win gold" Around six seconds later he answers "in pistol shooting" very unclearly. Very short answers and the whole interview seems to have been forced. He does answer the questions right but doesn't seem to be enjoying it and can only answer short answers, and also says unclearly something when they talk about life that could be translated to "for me it's starting to be over". At 2:20 she says "Long life. And the secret to living long?" and "Will it be kept a secret" He answers "Yes" Edit: Also, it's recorded in a nursing home for old folks who need 24/7 care by what is probably a member of the staff and was posted on that nursing home's facebook page.

YoungWillz 21,050 Posted July 1, 2021 American athlete Janet Moreau Stone, who won a gold medal at the 1952 Olympiad with her teammates in the 4x100m relay, death notice: https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/providence/name/janet-stone-obituary?pid=199252854 Can't see her picked in the Scavvy Hunt. Amazingly, she's not the last member of the team to die, as Barbara Jones (who was 15yo in that team) lives.

Jackie Robinson (1927) - basketball team - appeared at the London Olympics, presumably the American media would cover a gold medalist since. Charles Coste (1924) - cycling, pursuit - still alive according to the various cycling stats websites of varying official statuses Mario Ghella (1929) - cycling sprint - same sources, but less firm evidence. Marie Kovarova (1927) - team gymnastics - has an address on Star Tiger to send current mail to, apparently? Gordy Giovanelli (1925) - coxed four - named oldest living Olympian rower in Vandernotte obits last year. Giuseppe Moioli (1927) - coxless four - video of him training from 2019. I did just add 1948 gold medalists to my long list, belatedely, a few days ago so with Cook gone, here's the ones that seemed to be alive - with my reasoning (which may be flawed on the cyclists). Dutt died today according to Wikipedia. No other sources to back it up at current.

Ulitzer95 12,633 Posted August 29, 2021 Bit of a surprise. 9 years ago last month the photo below. The Queen walked out to the Olympic Stadium accompanied by Prince Philip and Rogge, both gone now. She also sat near the then Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams (now 71). He retired from the House of Lords last year. Still makes the odd appearance but iirc there have been some heath rumours floating around? I wonder...
