Former Carlisle manager Ian MacFarlane

Arguably managed our best team (including Stan Bowles) - failed, to get promoted (only two up in those days) but got more points than the team two seasons later who did earn a place in the top flight: https://www.newsandstar.co.uk/sport/17722980.tributes-paid-to-former-carlisle-utd-manager-ian-macfarlane-who-has-died-at-86/?ref=fbshr

Christ….. I was ready to make a 5 pounds of coffee deal on the Kenyan 'legend'.  Slow Sabbath news day in BBC land.  Note to self, no coffee deals on weekend.

Well, I'm glad they found the time - DURING the women's world cup finals.

In normal circumstances, any football "legend" gets the QO though.

Spanish article about Michael Robinson published today (July 12th).  Not a lot of specifics about his medical condition, but does confirm Immunotherapy didn't give positive results.  Article mostly talks about keeping hope, spending time with his family, having acupuncture and lamenting the possibility of not seeing his kids grow up.

Franz Beckenbauer had the 2nd heart surgery this year last weekend, by the way. This time, it was a routine procedure.

Investigators did not comment on their reasons, but Beckenbauer is known to have been in poor health and reports have circulated that he may not be deemed fit enough to stand trial or potentially face prison. Beckenbauer has undergone two heart operations (in 2016 and 2017), a 2018 hip replacement, and shared news of an eye infection in the past week.

Two former Wrexham footballers have died within a day of each other, the club has announced.

Bernard Evans and Bobby Park made more than 250 appearances for the club between them in the 1950s, 60s and 70s.

Evans, who scored just 27 seconds into his debut as a 17-year-old, died at the age of 82.

The club said wing half Bobby Park died the day before Mr Evans, on 23 July, aged 72.

Not a good year for Carlisle United as another former player Peter McConnell has reportedly died aged 82:

Leeds United and Bradford also.

Oldest Ipswich Town player Ron Trenter has died aged 90: https://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/36362/oldest-town-player-trenter-dies

Rather helpfully, the article discloses that the now oldest living Ipswich player is Len Fletcher, now 90. From 2015: https://www.facebook.com/bbcsuffolk/videos/len-fletcher-on-postwar-football-at-ipswich-town/1088132754534337/

Beat me to it - he's got a fair amount of coverage in local media. Captained the legendary mid-sixties side who did the unthinkable at the time and got themselves promoted!

Local paper coverage - https://www.newsandstar.co.uk/sport/17801553.tributes-paid-carlisle-united-legend-peter-mcconnell/?fbclid=IwAR2TGQg8sYAtfwhdbnHdjv_4_10-D2kMdIRpDezfoaZUGRml0Ib9QSoC6XA

Kolisniac and Ozil dropped from opener in "security concerns"

Following the carjacking attempt won't be making the trip to Newcastle.

Supposedly "further incidents" since the car-jacking. Someone trying to kidnap premier league footballers?

Assuming, between the lines, this means the carjacking wasn't just a random job it was targeted. So whether this is a religious thing (Kolasinac and Ozil are both practicing Muslims), an organised crime thing or the paramilitary wing of Arsenal Fan TV remains to be seen.

Could be connected to Kurds.  Ozil posed with wannabe tough guy of the middle east erdogan as did gundogan. Kolasinac though not sure if he has publicly supported him.

Progress recently has been made on the oldest footballers again - 19 clubs to go before people are rechecked again via three sources but I have found this  nugget - https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/sport/football/news/huddersfield-town-players-now-16413265 which rules out Graham Bailey as living (22/3/20) but confirms Albert Bateman 13/6/1924 as still alive.
