Art For Death's Sake

Recommended Posts

Roberta Marrero, Spanish artist, musician and LGBT activist, dead at 52. Vaguely recognise her work, she was the one who did all those "20th century dictators/pop culture mashup" artworks about 10/15 years ago:

Sam Butcher - the “artist” behind Precious Moments, the company that makes those little tacky porcelain figurines of children that your grandma probably owned - has died at the age of 85.

Same goes for whoever does those horrendous commemorative plates that you see advertised on the back pages of free magazines from the Sunday newspapers.

They can vary somewhat. My wife has some Lesley Anne Ivory cat plates and my late Mother-in-law had a complete set of Queen Mother's favourite flower plates which do look quite nice when displayed together but I will admit there are some shockers

Juhani Palmu now receiving palliative care at home.

He is dying from advanced COPD. He was hospitalized for almost two weeks during May and June.

I'd say it's his time. Reaching his 80th birthday on July 8 would already be a victory.

He would have been a 2025 class Immortal. RIP to one of the greats.

Oh shit, 73 is very young to die because of alzheimer, not? He was a great artist, one of the most famous in contemporary art...

Sadly not (its likelihood increases exponentially with age, but it can strike much earlier than that), recently reiterated here.

It's probably better not to read that unless you want a lump in your throat, it's a devastatingly sad story and extremely well written with a huge amount of honesty.
