Magere Hein 1,400 Posted January 16, 2016 GUYS, GUYS, PLEASE. This is too much for my Red-Bull-addled mind on a Saturday morning. Let's just go back to 'what a lad that Gazza is', ok? Right. I could do with a pint, a bit thirsty actually.
Bibliogryphon 9,589 Posted January 18, 2016 Ah, but a percentile is not a percentage. I won't bother you with the details.Spoilsport, I'll just have to go and look it up now. Anyway, in that case, rounding a "percentage" from 50% to 100% makes no sense to me. Ehrm, To me neither. In this context it is the same as rounding 0.5 to 1 (or 0). The question is a big assumption that you would always round up.
En Passant 3,743 Posted January 18, 2016 Without wishing to further bore lardy or massively prolong the 'feck all to do with gazza' off topicness, I always understood rounding, either up or down, as being the removal of inconsequential fractions for the purposes of clarity (it may have other more specific uses if one is a statistician or mathematician, however I am neither, as spotted by hein), however rounding 50% to 100% (or 0%) isn't exactly inconsequential. Magere Hein 1,400 Posted January 18, 2016 In this context it is the same as rounding 0.5 to 1 (or 0). The question is a big assumption that you would always round up. That reasoning has a specialised mathematical meaning. In circumstances in which just a few cases are examined, as must be the case to make such rounding meaningful, a percentage is not the right metric to use.

Back on topic, then Sorted!
Grim Up North 3,727 Posted January 18, 2016 Presumably our expectation is that Gazza will be rounded up to George Best not rounded down to a teetotaller.
One shot Paddy 1,206 Posted February 7, 2016 Selling tickets over here for an evening with Gazza on Nov 30th and Dec 1st, so neither he or the promoters think he's going to pop his clogs very soon. Unless he pulls a Jackson!
charon 4,943 Posted February 7, 2016 Not necessarily . Getting cash in now to furnish a summer of booze. If he pegs it, the lack of refunds won't bother him.
One shot Paddy 1,206 Posted February 7, 2016 Like I said pulls a Jackson. I have no interest in football whatsoever but part of me would love to go and ask what the fuck good he thought a bucket of chicken was going to do with Raoul Moat!

Fergie86 376 Posted March 26, 2016 It is sadly only a matter of time until he drinks himself to death, surprised he has lasted as long as he has to be honest but the body can take a remarkable amount of abuse before it finally gives in, he has had so many chances to beat the Drink much more than the average Alcoholic gets in there lifetime but sadly he just can't beat it. As a recovering Alcoholic myself i know it can be hard to beat demons but it doesn't matter how much help an individual gets, until they want to beat it they never will, the best way is to take one day at a time and worry about Tomorrow Tomorrow. Gazza is also getting older and his body won't be able to take the abuse it once could, only this week i found out that someone i knew died from Alcoholism at 55 after relapsing and going on a Binge, Paul is 49 in May i will be amazed if he see's 55 years of age to be honest every time he goes on one of his Binges it is one time closer to the time his luck finally runs out. If Paul could stop drinking permanently there is no reason why he couldn't live to a reasonable age but i think he is too far gone and with all his other mental health issues it is a matter of time he is effectively a Dead man Walking.

Fergie86 376 Posted March 26, 2016 he just has a binge now and again . that's not going to kill him surely ! he'll be fine. believe me Daft as it seems sometimes that can be worse, if you go long periods of time without drinking then your Body gets use to not drinking and then you hit it as hard as you use to do the Body is not use to it like it use to be and that can cause Organ failure, i have known a couple of people who have died that way in the past due to drinking so much after not drinking for months or years, i have done it myself and got into some right messes due to it but i haven't killed myself or had any lasting damage but it took me longer to recover and the effects were worse and i'm only 31 next week, imagine what it is like for someone who is in there 50's or 60's the impact on there bodies can be catastrophic.
