It can be.  Someone I know was in hospital recently,  underwent a major operation and a day or so afterwards she got Covid 19.  She was whisked straight into ICU because of her weakened state.

Likewise, while BoJo was in a serious condition, his move to ICU was seen as precautionary (unless we were all lied to, but when have the British government ever been guilty of that? )

Sergio Perez has the 'rona and is out of the British Grand Prix (and the 70th Anniversary thing). Given that he's a young athlete, there's a 99.9% chance he'll get through it, but still could be one of the more unusual ways we've lost a driver.

Well, more likely is that his recovery takes  so long he's out  of any competitive running for a decent showing in this years final table

Indeed it might not kill him but could help kill his career with Vettel eyeing up the Aston seat next year.

 

Not that he wishes his old teammate ill, but Nico Hulkenberg might be rubbing his hands with glee at this moment in time - might be an opportunity for him in a car well capable of podium.

Perez’ stand-in is likely to be Esteban Gutierrez given that he and Stoffel Vandoorne are Racing Point’s reserve drivers, but Vandoorne is in Berlin for the Formula E. And as for next year, as we know, it’ll be Stroll and either Perez or Secrashtian Vettel.

 

The only way I see a future in F1 for Hülkenberg is in a Haas. Grosjean is hanging by a thread and Magnussen’s maverick style might piss them off once too many.
