rockhopper penguin 2,265 Posted September 3, 2016 Nope. Oil is a renewable resource, death might not be. [Yeah, f**k you Earthmothers & hippies, oil, peat and wood are renewable] OK i'm intrigued. How is oil renewable?
charon 4,943 Posted September 3, 2016 Heh? How not?
rockhopper penguin 2,265 Posted September 3, 2016 Heh? How not? Because it is a fossil fuel formed from dinosaurs etc over millions of years and therefore can't be replaced once it's used.
charon 4,943 Posted September 3, 2016 Lol. Can't be replaced 'in humanity's lifetime' maybe, but that doesn't make it not renewable. The pressure of the Plates haven't stopped have they? Didn't think so, oil will be around when the Earth goes 'POP'. Humanity won't be.
rockhopper penguin 2,265 Posted September 3, 2016 Er, there'll be nothing left for the plates to squeeze, we'll extract it all. We need to preserve and grow chip shops.
charon 4,943 Posted September 3, 2016 Nah, if anything, the Plates will squeeze us when we're gone. I'm more, well not exactly worried, over harvesting the wind with turbines. There will be a price to be paid down the line for that pish. PS, from space, the Earth has never, ever , looked so green. Yay
rockhopper penguin 2,265 Posted September 3, 2016 There was a point to this exchange whcih I've now forgotten. ANyway, I'm hearing the call of the Islands, i'll check back in an hour or so and let you know what they are saying.
Sir Creep 7,070 Posted September 3, 2016 Got a good job offer today that will get me outta the oil field and back into librarianship/research. Careful what I ask for though....do I want it? SC Indoor work, you can browse deathlist at work? Yeah, death will be around a lot longer than oil. They are related in a way. Actually it'll be doing legal research for tax and fiscal policy makers at the Louisiana House of Representatives at the Capital Building in Baton Rouge. 120-mile round trip daily drive ugh. May have to figure something out there. Gotta buy some new suits. Not the type of job I can play on DL all day, in fact the one I have NOW is better for that as you see haha SC
Lard Bazaar 3,799 Posted September 4, 2016 One less wisdom tooth, 3 down, one to go.Sympathies. I'm waiting for a hospital appointment to get mine out!I had all four of mine out in one go a few years back. Horrendous. Still waiting for the appointment, thanks for the confidence boost Sorry. True though. My face and neck swelled and bruised so much I looked like Toad of Toad Hall. Horrendous pain, got dry socket in one of them, was off work for about three weeks. That helps..................... still waiting. I was referred in the November, by April still hadn't had an appointment so they transferred me to a private clinic to fiddle their waiting times, had it done in the May. We are going back five years though. If it helps, even though it was a complete nightmare, it really was worth it to stop the pain they were causing me. I had a week off work leading up to being referred, simply due to 'toothache' which sounds really lame when you ring in sick, but I was in so much pain I could not actually move out of bed. So it will all be worth it in the end 👍
DevonDeathTrip 2,358 Posted September 5, 2016 True story - I had two wisdom teeth removed in Suva, Fiji, by an affable but rather incompetent Cuban dental surgeon who, in my opinion, had early onset Parkinson's disease. Also, I can highly recommend kava as a painkiller for dental agonies.

No, actually, they were out twenty years ago. I'm coming close to the age people start getting them in my family.
Sir Creep 7,070 Posted September 7, 2016 Got a good job offer today that will get me outta the oil field and back into librarianship/research. Careful what I ask for though....do I want it? SC So yesterday I accepted the job offer and will no longer work in the Texas oil fields. At 53 I need to get away from all these chemicals and remote locations with no hospital for many many miles. I figure I can be around on a daily basis and watch my daughter grow up and help with school whereas I can't now. As much as I like what I do and am good at it, it's time to settle down again and coast into retirement in 18 years lol. Can't wait to commute 120 miles per day :-| SirC
msc 18,421 Posted September 7, 2016 Good luck with that. Sounds from afar like the better plan all round. Is 120 miles less travel? As someone who failed geography at school, I'm frequently amazed by how big the US is. If I traveled 120 miles from Glasgow, I'd wind up in England, in, err, Maryport or close to it. Spade_Cooley 9,513 Posted September 7, 2016 Well it's the old saw isn't it? In the UK, 200 miles is a long distance. In the US, 200 years is a long time.
