Today's i has an obituary piece in tribute to him, which states, "Tributes were paid to Segupta, who died suddenly on Sunday". So yes, a good writer (and a brave man, reading up on what he's done: nearly blown up in a suicide bombing in Baghdad, at one point the only international journalist in Aleppo, having got there through the sewers).
