Has anyone been watching 8 out 10 cats down countdown in the past couple of years and had Sean Lock on the radar?

He was missing for so many shows last series and the one before that yet had not been replaced. He also cancelled lots of live shows. Much later he appeared in the final episode last series with a shaved head which is not his usual style.

This series he is back with hair back to normal but has a completely different voice and is quite thin!! He is private enough that he has not addressed publicly if he has been battling anything but the best I’ve read online which fits is perhaps he had been battling cancer of the larynx.

One to watch..........

Certainly was one to watch - dead.

You say that, although if it was anyone else you’d moan they hadn’t posted in the right thread or they hadn’t provided a link back to the original posting or some other fickle bullshit

He had skin cancer in the past, he was a labourer before becoming a comedian and spent a lot of time out in the sun. Presumably this is what did him in.

Sean Lock made me laugh until I was in genuine pain. Comedy in all forms gives me life and he was one of my heroes in this respect. I am truly, truly gutted.

Yeah - bit of a shock - RIP.

A Lock for the DDP that no one picked.

Trying to deliver a pun using "8 Out of 10 Cats" and coming up with nothing here...

Seems you all liked him, RIP.... (I've never heard of him).

With all the lockdowns it's really hard to sniff out deaths among the stage people / entertainers.

This death is quite reminiscent of Sean Hughes in 2017, and Jeremy Hardy in 2019.

Dead 8 Out of 10 Cats participants:

Team captains:
Sean Lock

Guests:
Tara Palmer-Tomkinson
Jade Goody
Joan Rivers
Nikki Grahame
David Gest
Peaches Geldof
Carrie Fisher

Seems about right considering it's been running since 2005 and has had 232 episodes to date.

I disagree. With the exception of Lock, all of their deaths were avoidable.

I thought I'd waxed lyrical previously but apparently not; any way I recommend 15 Storeys High if you've never seen it (or even if you have) and like your comedy slightly surreal.

Given Fisher's death was probably due to where she had her heart attack (ie on an airplane), its weird to think that 8 out of 10 Cats Appearance might have cost her and her mum their lives...

(Also, wasn't David Gest a 60 year with poor health having a stroke? Those things happen too...)

Same. Checking the episodes today, I didn't realize that his last appearance was 10 years ago in the I series! Really gonna miss him.

Seeing as Never Mind the Buzzcocks will be returning later this year for a new series, and given that Sean Lock just died, here's a list of the goners from the original 1996–2015 run.

Cilla Black
Dale Winton (also a guest)
Terry Wogan (also a guest)

Team captains:
Sean Hughes

Guests:
Stuart Adamson (Big Country)
Pete Burns (Dead or Alive)
Keith Chegwin
Ian Dury
John Entwistle (The Who)

Caroline Flack
David Gest
Gordon Haskell (King Crimson)
Geoffrey Hayes
Vic Henley
Chas Hodges (Chas & Dave)
Neil Innes
Jon Lee (Feeder)
Lemmy (Motorhead)
Lil' Chris
Sean Lock
Kenny Lynch
Kirsty MacColl
Les McKeown (Bay City Rollers)
Ian McLagan (Small Faces)
Gary Moore (Thin Lizzy)
Bernie Nolan
Nicholas Parsons
Pete Shelley (Buzzcocks)
Alvin Stardust
Steve Strange (Visage)
Peter Stringfellow
Tommy Vance
Tony Wilson
Amy Winehouse

I think that's everyone.

Gest had a £500 a day coke habit, and had a cocktail of barbiturates in his system at the time he was found dead from a stroke.

Pretty sure Fisher had illicit drugs in her system at the time of her heart attack.

Goody had a cancer scare before her diagnosis and missed a key smear test that could've saved her.

Fair enough, didn't know that about Gest.

Fisher was a product of her own...vices, yes. I just meant the exact place she was in when it happened meant she was pretty much doomed, whereas if she'd been in London or home she'd likely have seen a cardiac specialist much quicker.

Goody is the prime example of "go get your tests".

Haven’t watched this for years. BBC should upload it to iPlayer.

I saw him at the Birmingham Hippodrome on his Purple Van Man tour. I laughed myself a hernia. Best stand up ever IMO.

And amazing on panel shows too. He mastered all corners of comedy, and the outpouring of tributes from the comedy world today show how revered he was.

This news today has pissed me off. Big time. I feel like Iain.
