Irish comedian Ed Byrne has paid tribute to his younger brother Paul, who has passed away from Hodgkin's lymphoma at the age of 44. Paul, who also worked in the comedy industry, was diagnosed with the uncommon form of cancer in 2013.

His agents, Individual Artist Management, described the Irishman as "an exceptional comedy director".

Taking to Twitter on Saturday, Ed Byrne paid tribute to his "pain-in-the-arse little brother".

Paul Byrne worked as live director on dozens of stage shows, including award-winning shows by Andrew Maxwell, Roisin Conaty and Al Pitcher.

He also worked on a variety of television programmes such Dara Ó Briain's Go 8-Bit, on which he served as executive producer, and Chris Moyles' Comedy Empire, providing additional material for the BBC3 show.

It sometimes appears you do your utmost to get peoples backs up (with more than a smidge of success), then you take one on the chin.

Fair Play. Can't stand people who dish it but can't take it.

I love the use of the term “sudden accident” in this story, makes me think there must be people out there having planned accidents……

I think the opposite would be a gradual accident

Yeah, I was reading up on her a while back.

As a kid, I always thought she was Scottish, for some reason.

Maybe it was because she did Scottish accents....

She was taught in Glasgow and used to do TV with Stanley Baxter, so it's understandable tbf.

Wiki still thinks she's alive!!

Is that an oversight or a return to the satire that first made her famous?

I am not entirely sure that, whoever created her page, has an audience for it big enough for it to be maintained.

I reckon a majority of people who heard the news would have said 'who? while looking extremely gormless.

Basically anybody under the age of 40.

A fair point, but most people on the fringes of fame like her tend to have some online die-hards obsessively chronicling the minor details of their lives. Wiki will see her off soon enough.

Recent photo of Shecky Green (L), Pat Cooper (M) and Pete Barbutti (R). Shecky still able to stand up at the age of 96 and Cooper, despite spending most of his life either having heart attacks or recovering from them, looking good for 92.
