Double checked with Wiki because Willz memories go back further than mine. Ask Aspel def on in the 70s, so if all going in twelve months as suggested above I'd like to welcome Michael Aspel to DL2024 if he makes it!

At least Tommy Cannon and Syd Little can sleep well at night knowing they at least weren't Hale and Pace.

I was unlucky enough to catch an early 1980s variety comedy show named Funnybone whose star attraction was the new comedy duo Cheese & Onion. They were dreadful, the show never made it to a second series, and they split up a couple of years later.

I'm not sure* we could call him a 'major' star but Jimmy Tarbuck still lives (not sure he had an eponymous show either (Wikipedia says he did), but he fronted the original Winner Takes All (or Winner Take All, as he used to say)).

*I am sure, we couldn't (but then if Cilla qualifies *shrug*)

Wasn't that an Inside Number 9 episode?

Les Dennis and Dustin Gee had a short lived show

Short lived in the same sense as Dustin Gee.

They were an interesting combination Les Dennis was technically a very good impressionist but Dustin Gee had a more natural sense of comic timing.

Of course both are alumni of the Russ Abbot's Madhouse

Miles Jupp will only be Archie from Balamory in my eyes, having watched endless repeats as the three kids grew up.

I can't quite adjust to him having a career thereafter!

I don't know about class, but David Mitchell is one of those people whose voice sounds like someone's bottom making farting noises against a leather seat.

I've updated the cast list for The Comedians again (see the spoiler below) to add a few names who were missing.

I'm amazed that Stevie Faye is still with us at 96 considering that he's been so frail for years. He must surely be the oldest living comedian of note in the UK now.

I wonder what his real name was? A search for the surname "Faye" for 1927 births on FreeBMD brings up nada.

Do we think he'll get a QO (even though he isn't a DDP pick)?

Halfway there. Real first name Owen: https://www.facebook.com/hillcare.net/photos/a.766395096852148/1683715121786803/?type=3

Pete Davidson in a minor car accident: https://pagesix.com/2023/10/01/pete-davidson-crashes-his-suv-while-leaving-his-stand-up-comedy-show/  (Page Six is actually a reliable source for SNL gossip).

This wouldn't really be a notable story beyond "New Yorker doesn't know how to drive," if it wasn't for the fact that he crashed a car into a house a few months ago, and looks under the influence in those photos and really every photo ever taken of him.
He did "joke" a few weeks ago that he's done ketamine every day for 4 years. https://ew.com/celebrity/pete-davidson-took-ketamine-for-four-years-before-rehab/

Seems to be something about left wing comedians in the UK and cancers/other life shortening diseases at a (relatively) young age.

I'm surprised it hasn't spawned its own conspiracy theory by now.

This is really going to fuck up my six-monthly "wait is Mark Steel dead? no I'm thinking of Jeremy Hardy" brainfart.

Uber-centrist to the extent he makes someone as blandly "well let's not be too hasty" Third Way as me want to join Shining Path.
