Superintendent Henry Mooney
Superintendent Don Adams
Commissioner John du Rose
3 May 1911 – 28 Jun 1980
Detective Superintendent Leonard "Nipper" Read 31 March 1925 – 7 April 2020
Detective Sergeant Sheila Acton
Detective Constable Janet Adams
Chief Inspector Frank Holt
Detective Inspector Frank Cater
Detective Sergeant David Eager

Detective Sergeant Trevor Lloyd-Hughes 2 May 1934 – 7 May 1986 (died amidst accusations of soliciting sex from male prostitutes, likely offed himself)
Detective Sergeant Ben Trevette
Detective Sergeant Andy Gallagher
Detective Constable George McKay
Detective Sergeant William Waite
Detective Constable Carol Liston

Detective Sergeant Algie Hemmingway 1936 – 28 July 2011
Detective Constable Robin West
Detective Constable George Ness
<-- there's a George Ness born in 1929 who died in Sutton in December 2016. Good chance that was him.
Detective Sergeant Alan Wright c. 1942 – c. October 2023

Really hard to find info on most of them. I doubt they're all dead given some of the birth years though.

Sad news. RIP.

In recent years he was also the Convenor of the Crossbench peers in the House of Lords.

Not sure why but for some reason I could have sworn someone selected him for the DDP few years back but don’t think it’s the case.

When I was a kid I used to see mentions of court proceedings in the newspapers, and the judges were always called Mr Justice This or Mrs Justice That.

I marvelled at how their parents had had the foresight to give them such appropriate names.

Nominative determinism has gone completely the other way nowadays, what with James Cleverly being foreign secretary.

Justice Fingers!

I am available for children's parties and Bar Mitzvah's.

I would love if Trump nominated his sister, Maryanne Trump Barry, an 81-year-old inactive federal judge. She's actually quite liberal and apparently pro-choice. Maybe she's a future DDP pick.

Maryanne Barry reportedly dead: https://dailyvoice.com/new-york/nassau/former-president-donald-trumps-sister-dies-at-86-in-new-york/

Edit: DDP pick.

Igor Judge, Baron Judge, Lord Judge - You'll be pleased to read this obit, in which he's reported as saying nominative determinism didn't influence his choice of career. the 'Igor' comes after Igor Stravinsky - his mother was a fan.

He is not really a breaking news type of death. But he will get broadsheet obits in time.

Shows how dull, uninspiring and irrelevant the Supreme Court is the UK.

We were fine 15 years ago when it didn’t exist. Just another Blairite vanity project and a waste of money. Needs to be abolished.

It did pretty much exist. It was just called the Law Lords. Not a great difference. Except judges are no longer also part of the legislature putting the UK in line with every other country in the world.
