themaninblack 2,112 Posted August 14, 2016 There were some croaky, ancient voices audible on last night's R4 documentary about Richard Dimbleby. Jeremy Isaacs in particular seems suddenly very old, Michael Peacock (former BBC2 controller) sounded like he had a death rattle and several other obit worthy old codgers chipped in. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07nn2t4 I didn't know Michael Peacock was still alive!

The Dead Cow 620 Posted January 2, 2017 OK even the death of Tom Clancy is not enough to break the boredom and so I present another list. This time it is presenters of WatO (or The World at One for those peasents who don't listen to Radio 4. For a programme that began in 1965 it only has six surviving main presenters William Davis (b.1933) Brian Widlake (?) David Jessell (?) James Naughie (b.1951) Martha Kearney (b 1957) Shaun Ley (b.1969) All would expect a BBC obit but surprised I couldn't find more detail on Jessell. Brian Widlake has died: https://twitter.com/BBCWiltshire/status/815897545062961152?lang=en
Imelda 621 Posted January 2, 2017 An intersting Last Word special on R4 - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b085z34d This week Last Word departs slightly from its usual format, when Matthew Bannister and the BBC obituary editor Nick Serpell return to the beginning of 2016 and recall a time when obituarists were in huge demand. Together they discuss the challenges and processes involved in commemorating so many big names in so short a time

msc 18,479 Posted February 6, 2017 He was never on my mind. At least he didn't make the drop 40... Literally on the team right to the moment I was going to press "send", then swapped out on a gut feeling whim for Al-Baghdadi. Still, these things happen, and it might yet prove a good decision...
