TQR 14,385 Posted May 3 There or thereabouts half way through the council results, and the Tories so far have lost 54-55% of the seats they've contested. That's bottom end of their lower expectations and the Lib Dems are ahead of them at this point. It's a bloodbath. Castlepoint, fairly near me, have completely wiped out the Tories there!

I used to live on Canvey, a place where you were either a builder or related to one. Castle Point council were a load of c*nts, of all political persuasions. Good to see everything going around in a full circle. The Tories won the last election because Labour were utterly shite and comrade Corbyn was a step too far and, now, Labour will win the next election because the Tories are utterly shite and Sunak will be a step too far. Yeah, I know they are an incompetent, corrupt bunch of self serving cunts, they all are. We are now left with a choice between syphilis and genital warts. God must really hate the British . YoungWillz 21,026 Posted May 3 Ben Houchen discovers Sunak at his side and a bunch of Vote Conservative placards. Astonishing complacency. As I understand it, there's a lot of disappointment in what Houchen has allegedly delivered for them (hence the huge swing of votes against him). Interesting times - at least we know Houchen is a true blue Tory supporter and Sunak supporter.

TQR 14,385 Posted May 3 Got a Sky News alert saying "Labour are on course to be the largest party at the GE but not an overall majority". They're taking this from the LE results so far, which you can't really do. There's always a much, much larger presence of smaller parties and independents in LEs. And just look at the 26.something swing in the Blackpool by-election - the third biggest Con-to-Lab swing ever.

YoungWillz 21,026 Posted May 3 Basically it assumes a no change vote in Scotland and Wales where there were no elections and also assumes others such as independents will gain a quarter of the votes. Which is rubbish of course. What should be worrying for Labour is the vote share for them not even achieving 40%. Starmer may indeed be the default PM in due course if the country goes away from the Tories, but he and his party aren't necessarily the debutante you want to dance with at the Victory Ball. However, with every passing moment Sunak doesn't call an election, the worse it will be for them imo.

Well, we don't want a landslide for anyone, do we, if we want electoral reform.

He's dumb enough to do so Listened to the post-election night Newscast on BBC Sounds on the way home, and on there Adam Fleming, the presenter mentioned the (at that point unannounced) national vote share projection and explained it by saying it was what would happen if these results translated into a general election and was very firmly corrected by Prof Sir John Curtice, who said it was only a projection of what would happen if everywhere in England and Wales held a local election on this day, absolutely nothing to do with what would happen in a General Election. So yes, you're all right in summary.
