Long Facebook status from Bernard Cornwell in which he explains this will be the first year since 1980 he hasn't submitted a full book to a publisher, as a result of "surgical procedures, chemotherapy sessions, dentists and hospital visits".

According to this book review, as of last month, Graham Caveney was in a "current state of remission":

https://leftlion.co.uk/features/2024/07/bookreview-the-body-in-the-library-by-graham-caveney/

This from the Times (a non pay walled version) explains a little bit more. I guess the book itself reveals even more.

Can't see anything to read?  Just a pic of the front cover and various click-to-subscribe buttons.

Odd, works for me.

Search for Graham Caveney and remission in Google and the link should come up. Ignore the paid Times and Irish Times links and it should be 4th or 5th link.

He's been in remission for about a year? Hah, well that was me fooled for the DDP!

Got it, but it fades out in the paragraph mentioning Samuel Beckett and Laurel & Hardy.   Can you elucidate, please?

"Eventually he finds himself in remission, but he is too astute to think his ordeal is over: 'A stay of execution still means execution' ".

Someone who I don't think has ever been mentioned here before is Mary Rockerfeller Morgan, 86, author, psychotherapist and the daughter of former US Vice President Nelson Rockerfeller.

She specializes in bereavement therapy for people who have lost a twin.  Her own twin brother Michael is believed to have been killed and eaten by the Asmat tribe while visiting Papua New Guinea in 1961.

I've heard that twins tend to die the same way, but this would be quite something.

Maybe I read too much into it, but I think the tumour is currently gone, but she knows that it will come back, glioblastoma always does.

I had no idea Thomas Rockwell was Norman Rockwell's son.

Been in hospice for four months, dies within 24 hours of Drol posting about them. They were probably surfing the DL on their phone, saw that post and thought "Oh shit, forgot to die".

I was due to attend a Q&A event for the latest book from Alan Hollinghurst on Friday evening, but it's just been cancelled. The organisers' email describes him as 'very unwell', but they expect to reschedule it to sometime in late November, early December. He's 70 now, and I can't find anything about any health conditions, so maybe just a bout of covid or very bad cold?
