msc 18,439 Posted December 8, 2016 I get what you mean, it is quite satisfying to see The Honourable Member for DDP North doing better than about 100 non-theme teams! I admit I'm a complete hypocrite in the matters, disliking the cancer mums but still picking certain people.
Toast 16,136 Posted December 8, 2016 How difficult would it be to exclude anyone who is "only famous for being ill" ? If you also disqualified claims to "fame" which relate directly to their illness, eg charity fundraising, blogging etc.
Death Impends 7,964 Posted December 8, 2016 I do like how well I've performed this year given my choice to play "morally". But at the same time, all the teams ahead of me right now had the benefit of a 12-pointer iffy pick in their squads, so I realize I can't really keep with that decision if one seriously wants to win it. As nice as it would be otherwise... but I fully acknowledge how much a pain it would be to exclude FFBIs, or even penalizing them - given both the sheer amount of names that go in the DDP database and that there's not a clear, indisputable boundary for whether this pick is iffy or not. Joey Feek being an example of someone clearly only known by 99% of those who picked her for being ill, but had some fame to her name. Shameless proved why going for these picks isn't the most sensible route to the title, and the most contentious picks have been outlawed by OoO and TMIB already. I had the feeling that the media coverage of these people, or to be more precise, coverage of their death, notably declined after the deaths of Joey Feek and Charlotte Eades. These two cases were a bit too much, I guess.
Spade_Cooley 9,519 Posted December 8, 2016 Just found a "lost" obituary for Chus Lampreave, mentioned in this interview with Pedro Almodovar from August.
themaninblack 2,112 Posted December 8, 2016 This has prompted me to have a look at some of the "losties" to see if we can smuggle in a couple of obits. I'm not sure whether this counts but actor Cory Feldman dedicated his much annihilated TV performance to Majestik Magnificent but the article doesn't explicitly mention that he died! msc 18,439 Posted December 8, 2016 I was having a wee trawl of the List of the Lost, to see if I could find anything. While I couldn't, I thought this was very unlucky for Bert: the Daily Mail implying but not stating that the Majestik magician chap is dead. I mean, the album is about loss, and it's dedicated to four dead people, but the word "dead" is never used. First time I've seen that article. Ouch. I even got a rare post from Bert out of it too! I admit to even looking for a Delpech obit that day, despite it being not in my own interest.
YoungWillz 21,037 Posted December 8, 2016 According to the rules, there must be mention of a death. Watching to see how TMIB flips the coin.
Death Impends 7,964 Posted December 8, 2016 Re LotL names, I do like how me dropping Ralph Whitworth like a hot potato ended up giving a goose egg pick to this year's Diana Rots. Makes me feel unintentionally crafty.

Joey Russ 7,220 Posted December 13, 2016 I decided to put together a list of the top ten and see if the drop 40 bonuses were inputted for this year, who would be on top (and subtracting unlucky 13 bonuses as well): David Quantick Showbiz Pals: 173 Heading Nowhere: 171 The Living End:166 Thomas Jefferson Survives: 163 Pan Breed: 163 Crossing The Styx: 157 Golden Slumbers: 148 Poochie Died On The Way Back To His Home Planet: 141 Cancerous Hatred: 137 The Love Boat:132 So basically the only changes I see is that TJS and Pan Breed would be joint 4th and Poochie's team and Cancerous Hatred would overtake The Love Boat. Spade still wins (and that's without Joey Feek as joker). That's my observation.
