I think he can survive 2017. Crazy, but likely.

I would agree with you had it not been the lack of a public appearance in the past 2 months. His documentary was shown at a major film festival in Canada, and Gord Downie did not make an appearance at that despite being in good health the last time we saw him in public. The fact that the only person we're receiving health updates from right now is his brother gives a red flag in my head that maybe he's not doing as well as we thought. He won't die anytime soon, but I wouldn't be surprised if he dies sometime in November or December.

I think he'll live to celebrate his 54th birthday on February 6, 2018.

I think he can survive 2017,...

The funny fact it was that a lot of people where saying he was one of the death " cert " of this year...

Another deaths cert: Leah Bracknell, King of Romania,  Leslie Phillips,  ...

Cancer isn't the death sentence it once was 20 or even 10 years ago downie and Leah would of been dead by now then. Terminal brain cancer and gord downie is alive 17 months later and stage 4 lung cancer and Leah is going strong 13 months later. According to her this morning interview she was diagnosed 5 weeks before that interview so she's way past the year mark now. She has a 31% to 35% percent chance of making it to 2018 depending on type of lung cancer she has.

Recorded in January 2016 and February 2017. It tells us nothing about September 2017...

Yeah, that red flag of no public appearances, despite the new album, is still there. In fact, it might be more of a red flag to be honest...

Yep, let's just forget about him for this year.

A couple things before people continue to make final conclusions:

A. I can't find the article cause for some reason it links back to this page. That's more of a problem with the link, as Death Impends said but...

B. We haven't seen him in a public since July, so we don't know if he's really doing that well

C. Brain cancer can still strike at any time, so even if he is doing well at the moment, he could easily deteriorate quickly

D. Remember, David Bowie released an album, and he died two days afterwards, so he could easily follow suit...

So, we can't say he'll definitely survive the year until it's over. While it wouldn't surprise at this point, you're really underestimating brain cancer right now...

Sorry. Fixed now!

Joey Russ, you can strike "A" from your list.

RIP. I liked his band.

A historical day then.

Yeah, I thought not showing up to that film festival that had his documentary in it was a big sign. That’s why I thought he was on his way out. From what I heard, they were a great band anyhow, and it’s sad. RIP

down goes Downie! Tragic!

he truly was ahead by a century, and Canada mourns.

RIP, and thanks for the record.
