ebless 203 Posted December 25, 2016 There's been a lot of talk on social media and forums that Rick Parfitt is the first Band Aid singer to have perished so this has inspired me to put a Band Aid thread together. I'm only counting the stars who performed on the actual record so no entry for Bowie who only did his bit for Live Aid. *Simon Le Bon (Duran Duran) *Robert "Kool" Bell (Kool & the Gang) *Bono (U2) *Pete Briquette (The Boomtown Rats) *Adam Clayton (U2) *Phil Collins (Genesis and solo artist) *Chris Cross (Ultravox) *Simon Crowe (The Boomtown Rats) *Sara Dallin (Bananarama) *Siobhan Fahey (Bananarama) *Johnnie Fingers (The Boomtown Rats) *Bob Geldof (The Boomtown Rats) *Boy George (Culture Club) *Glenn Gregory (Heaven 17) *Tony Hadley (Spandau Ballet) *John Keeble (Spandau Ballet) *Gary Kemp (Spandau Ballet) *Martin Kemp (Spandau Ballet) *Marilyn *George Michael (Wham!) *Jon Moss (Culture Club) *Steve Norman (Spandau Ballet) *Rick Parfitt (Status Quo) *Nick Rhodes (Duran Duran) *Francis Rossi (Status Quo) *Sting (The Police and solo artist) *Andy Taylor (Duran Duran) *James "J.T." YoungWillz 21,067 Posted December 1, 2020 Not giving anything away, as I'm not picking him, but Francis Rossi (of The Quo) seems to have undergone cataract surgery in October to save his eyesight. Will be 72 next year with a history of drug use, having to watch it in the Covid era. Not picking him for 2021 is probably a mistake (I mean, he could heart attack at any time), but I have more eligible bachelor(ette)s for my TOTP theme team next year. Probably mentioned elsewhere but John Taylor (of The Durans) had an episode of Covid in the early part of this year, though seemingly fully recovered. Those reports were before the "long Covid" effects were mentioned, so who knows if fully recovered doesn't necessarily mean lung scarring, etc. Time will out, don'y beg me to please please tell you now. And race had nothing to do with Bob's charitable activities, so why drag it in? He's a humanitarian, doesn't matter what colour his skin is.
msc 18,480 Posted December 2, 2020 Yeah. Although there is the train of thought that Geldof's lawyers were the final nail in the coffin for Michael Hutchence and his death was the nail in the coffin for Paula, but that theory comes from people who think Geldof is a gobshite. And despite agreeing that Geldof IS a gobshite, and that Yates likely went into a spiral over Hutchence's death... if you look at the brain injury he suffered in Holland a few years previously, Hutchence was always going to die relatively young, likely by his own hand. If it wasn't that fight with the lawyers that triggered end game, something else before long would have.

Remind me again, who was it that broke up the marriage and created the reason for the involvement of lawyers?

Aye, just cut out the bit where I said it wasnt Geldofs fault... (Although tbf, those specific lawyers at the time were playing hardball over Hutchence getting to see Tiger Lily, his own daughter. But that somewhat detracts from the point that Geldof himself wasn't to blame...)
j0neseur0 118 Posted December 2, 2020 (edited) Sorry to go very off topic but a similar list could be made with the Bo Selecta - Proper Crimbo video. Jade Goody & Caroline Flack are both in the video (and Michael Jackson-ish if you include the masks). Surprisingly, a Christmas single made two decades after Band Aid has almost the same death rate. Here's the video Edited December 2, 2020 by joneseuro I am bad at embedding video

Francis Rossi just showed up on a Channel 5 music doc and has aged quite substantially in the 2-3 years since I last saw him in anything. So much so I had to rewind the TV to see who it actually was talking.

YoungWillz 21,067 Posted September 26, 2021 Although not on the Band Aid single, let's enjoy once again that opening of Live Aid with Status Quo in memory of Alan Lancaster who has died: Maybe this could be expanded to Live Aid as well - all part of the deal.
