Joey Russ 7,226 Posted January 26, 2018 It happens whenever he has the time. Generally, it happens once every two weeks, but it could be quicker if there is more deaths during a certain time period...

Back in the OoO days there was a boxer who died in January of injuries suffered the previous December but carried no unnatural bonus points. A boxer dying from injuries sustained in the ring isn’t unnatural. A boxer dying in an auto accident is. As in an actress. As was John Nash. Bollocks to the fascist suggesting it isn’t an unnatural death. I should hope common sense says if you get head injuries in the ring (see Abdusalamov) vs head injuries getting one’s ass beat in jail (see Peter Tosh’s son Jawara McIntosh and a unique pick tyvm) one requires an unnatural death bonus and one gets denied the same. Bollocks! SC
Joey Russ 7,226 Posted January 26, 2018 The difference is that they actually died by those causes in the same year. Apart from one exception (which was solely due to a mistake by themaninblack), unnatural bonuses only count if they’re done in the same year...

Bollocks! SC In that case, I have a question about this. I've seen people pick those in high risk professions, and I'm thinking about that guy who died recently from "Storm Chasers." Ironically, if anyone had chosen him they would presumably have got the unnatural causes bonus anyway, since it's been reported that he died of a drug overdose. But if he'd got too close to a tornado instead, and been killed, would that have counted as unnatural causes or not? And if so, is there any difference between that and a boxer? (We'll assume that the incident and death happen in the same year.) I'm not arguing or anything, I'm just genuinely curious about what the rules are. Thanks for any clarification. Toast 16,140 Posted January 26, 2018 An unnatural cause is an unnatural cause, regardless of the occupation, lifestyle or habits of the victim.
msc 18,443 Posted January 26, 2018 Here is TMIB's ruling on such cases - before this, it was on a person to person basis rather than having a rule itself:
DevonDeathTrip 2,358 Posted January 26, 2018 My DDP joker in 2009 Eluana Englaro, comatose for years after a car crash and then starved to death when her feeding tubes were withdrawn, didn't get the unnatural bonus points. Not that still I'm bitter about it or anything.
msc 18,443 Posted January 26, 2018 ^ For newcomers to the story: If he'd got those unnatural bonus points AND the Linda Uttley obit hadn't been delayed over Christmas, he'd have won the 2009 DDP, you see.
CharonsCrew 23 Posted January 26, 2018 Thanks for the responses all. I would agree that an unnatural death is an unnatural death regardless, otherwise it might be hard to decide where to draw the line. That Branson fellow used to do some fairly interesting things - if he skydived dressed as an angel while holding a 'Fly Virgin!' sign, is that work-related? I'd never really thought of picking people who make these daring reality shows, but I might give them a consideration for next year. Even if their shows aren't necessarily popular, the press will probably pick up on someone who deliberately ran into a tornado.

Sir Creep 7,070 Posted January 27, 2018 Calling an elderly person who 'falls' an unnatural death.....that's how almost ALL of them die. The old 'broken hip'. If you fall like that idiot Korean building climber a few months ago, that's unnatural (if not suicidal). Otherwise falling down is something that happens due to that unnatural thing called gravity. How long does 'a fall' have effect? A person falls and dies 4 months later? Anyway..... Spade_Cooley 9,525 Posted January 28, 2018 So, now all the teams are (effectively) up, and we''re over the hump of January's obituary rush, here's on the to-do list: One (theme) team still has a few incorrect picks due to a botched submission entry. Three theme teams need adding in full due to falling down the back of the sofa Short bios and pics for those who've died so far ahead of the full bio rollout Update the Drop 40 page for Cryne (out loud) Actually settle on a colour scheme for links on the homepage and stop going 50% TMIB's, 30% mine and 20% whatever I decide at random. Plus Barbra Bush's mum and Sree Sree fuckups and the usual stuff there.
Joey Russ 7,226 Posted January 28, 2018 Just something I noticed, I can't seem to click back on 2017 in the archives section if I wanted to go view past hits for that year. Joey Russ 7,226 Posted January 28, 2018 You still have a very decent team to compete with. At the very least, I expect you to get Bracknell, Gilbert, Goldberg, Jose, Jowell, McCain, Miller, and Vervoort, and Cappotelli, Francis, Lorimer, and Tapie are likely. I think you’ll likely have 16 hits, with (imo) Clegg, Heine, Lima, and Nolan surviving the year. Top five is very plausible...
