Spade_Cooley 9,570 Posted March 4, 2018 Your first update of March. Not quick enough for Mr Bannister, admittedly...
Death Impends 8,012 Posted March 4, 2018 Just a two point gap between my main and side teams. Though I have no worries Heimel will get her due in the coming weeks.
Spade_Cooley 9,570 Posted March 4, 2018 One thing I noticed with the updates (only 280 bios left to go!) is the pick of Ray Merrin, from the very optimistic Watership Down theme team. Mirrin died in January, a few days before he was scheduled to get a special award at the Baftas. The award was still presented posthumously, but seemingly no write-up of the ceremony mentioned him. Poor bastard.
Heef 166 Posted March 4, 2018 Haha. I didn't think that team would make any hits- QO or not. on a related topic, how does the theme team league look at the moment?

I think your politics team is currently tied for first along with a theme focusing on football called Sudden Death as I checked the overall leaderboard. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong though. themaninblack 2,112 Posted March 4, 2018 Good stuff. It's already March. Before you know it you'll already be planning for 2019!
Dr_T 254 Posted March 5, 2018 My DDP team Pity Da Foolz is currently sitting 2nd (but just a QO for Spanky Manikan out of first-not holding my breath though). I guess this qualifies me for a self assessment of my chances. RIP Falkholt, Elias, Miller, Nevin, Cryne, Goodwin (and Manikan) The good oil hereabouts suggest that Stefannsson, Stiles, Bracknell, and McCain should score, not 100% convinced about 1 or 2 of these but who am I to argue with the collective genius. The other picks I am happy with are Ricketts, Butts and Frates. I think Anne Hamilton-Byrne will die but I think she was a poor pick as she is only worth 5 points. Of the others (Lima, Willesee, Cappotelli, Nolan, Bain), I think 1 or 2 might score but probably not strong picks on balance. Predicting somewhere around 13-14 hits and 150 points-a good enough score but not enough to challenge for the podium. Worst miss: Marieke Vervoort especially if she qualifies for the unnatural death bonus (which I think is dubious for reasons mentioned earlier).
Spade_Cooley 9,570 Posted March 5, 2018 If Marieke turns out to be this year's Frank van den Bleeken, I think you're favourite.

Spade_Cooley 9,570 Posted March 6, 2018 OK, so with only about 200 bios left to write, I'm moving on to pictures. Which is where you lovely people come in. Getting you to help writing the bios doesn't really save any time. Getting you to help sourcing and cropping the pictures does. So if you have some spare time, can type a celebrity's name into google and then crop it using Photoshop or pixlr.com, let me know. If you've already offered your services, do so again here because I have a shit memory.

time 8,646 Posted March 8, 2018 @Spade_Cooley I'd help with image editing if I could get pixlr to work (I don't photoshop) but I'm having no luck with it. In the meantime, if you wanted to liven up Ronnie Campbell MP's bio, this might be worth a read (if you aren't already aware).

deadsox 894 Posted March 9, 2018 I've seen summaries from other players and find them interesting so here's mine: RIP- Cryne, Elias, Goodwin, Miller and Nevin Very Likely- Bracknell, Butts, Jose, Jowell, McCain, Stefansson and Vervoort*. Good Shots- al Baghdadi**, Gilbert, Lorimer, Ricketts, Cappotelli Less Likely- Bain, Lima, Ricksen *Vervoort is critical as she's my Joker. ** al Baghdadi is critical as he's young, could get the unnatural causes bonus and only one team ahead of me has him. Spade_Cooley 9,570 Posted March 12, 2018 Ouch for TJS: the most recent episode of the Saturday Review on Radio 4 talks about Cynthia Heimel, and presumably mentions her death... but it doesn't specifically mention that on the strapline, just that she's "recommended". This year's Majestik Magnificent?
msc 18,498 Posted March 12, 2018 Why was the Independent dropped anyhow? The I is allowed and its essentially the same newspaper? I know it's digital only, but then, a good chunk of the digital obits allowed never show up in the print editions of their respective newspapers.
