The Deathlist Cup 2018

With less than an hour to go I'm going to risk presuming the rematch is on.

I'm actually sure I will need some luck Joey - I expect our teams to be similar but yours to be slightly better on paper.

But death is fickle so time will tell.

Good luck to you too.

GUN.

Teaser: on paper, both of you have improved on last year and it looks impossible to call outright.

Hmmmm - this round currently isn't working out according to the above.

Last year my team v Joey scored 4 deaths to Joey's 2. Currently it looks like even the same performance would have secured a win.

However we're locked on 2 deaths each with 8 days to go. Still time yet but, for me, what looked like an improved team on paper is going to produce a worse result.

I am pondering with 8 days left at what point luck comes more into someone dying who is on your/your opponent's team rather than simply winning a coin toss.

Luck is a huge part of any Cup competition.

Unless you are Barcelona, of course.

Surely this from a newspaper obit section counts for Kleese then?

If not, I'm completely fucked now that Bailey got his.

You were sitting on that death notice (a brief one admittedly) from the mighty Greensboro News and Record and didn't say? Silly boy! Largest newspaper in Guildford County, North Carolina, in case you didn't know (ie, that'll be all of us, I'd assume...)

Death Impends vs Heef 6-10

Gcreptile vs Sir Creep 3-11

Joey Russ vs Grim Up North 6-6

Phantom of the Midway vs The Dead Cow 10-10

Sean vs Charon 0-0

Roverandout vs DDT 0-6

Captain Chorizo vs Young Willz 0-4

msc vs Deadsox 6-7

This format makes luck a bigger factor than most.  A lot of us are pretty good at figuring out who will die in the next year but figuring out who will die in the next month is a lot trickier.  As a result, great picks sometimes last more than a month or fail to make the starting line.

Paid deaths column announcements count as QOs?  That surprises me.

Did last year too for one of DI or DDT's picks, iirc. The QO statement is meant to be a bar from needing them, not a criteria, (ie by making it so low...)  though the fact some picks still struggle...

The two things I really dislike in deadpools are cancer mums and List of the Losters,  hence the pool I run aiming to get rid of both.

Bob Paisley's Liverpool was arguably the greatest European team of their generation - 6 league titles in 9 seasons, 3 league cups, one UEFA Cup, and 3 European Cups. Never won the FA Cup. Luck of the draw and bounce of the ball.

Some folk might be better at sniffing out the month though? You did it better than anyone last year, and so far Sir Creep appears to have taken to the Cup like a duck to water.

Actually deadsox didn't do it better than everyone last year - however he did do it better than his opponent in each round.

Exactly and that's another aspect of the luck component.

Some call it luck. I prefer to call it the magic of the cup.

Knew I should have plumped for Real to avoid that. :D

Tafoya and Anzaki aren't uniques though, while Benson is, meaning you'd need three hits out of the names you mentioned now.

Arthur Tafoya has died.

Damn, would've been on my April line up if he made it. Still, assuming the obit comes for Bernie Dekoven, gcreptile still needs three more deaths to beat Sir Creep...

Tafoya was a bad research miss on my part, seeing as sniffing out tottering religious folk was one of my specialties last Cup.

I'd expect QO for both before too long.

Aye, plenty of Twitter chatter from people who knew him.

Tafoya was a lock for me. The "maybe"s didn't come through.

But it looks like I, once again, lose to the best performance of the year.

Still waiting for De Koven news (crucial to Death Impends but likely to be a KO to Mr Creptile), but here's an obit for Bishop Lafoya, from an 150 year old broadsheet newspaper no less!

Quote

The Chieftain was established in 1868 by Dr. Michael Beshoar, the first doctor in Trinidad, Colorado.

Now you know! So that's points for Gcreptile, though Sir Creep has "points in hand" to come. And Dead Cow takes the lead again on Rad. 23 points between them in that game, none between Sean and Charon. It's a funny old game.

Death Impends vs Heef 6-10

Gcreptile vs Sir Creep 6-11

Joey Russ vs Grim Up North 6-6

Phantom of the Midway vs The Dead Cow 10-13

Sean vs Charon 0-0

Roverandout vs DDT 0-6

Captain Chorizo vs Young Willz 0-4

msc vs Deadsox 6-7
