Clearly I need to get out more ....... or possibly stay in more.

Solidarity with Toasty here. In fact I leave you trailing in the dust with my lack of knowledge... . I probably know about twice as many as those highlighted now, but only from frequenting this place. This is also why I make no attempt at these 'research needed' pools and tend to stick to those that are 'pick from a list'. I'd be an atrocious waste of the scorers time in these. Joey, I only know what the office of the senate majority leader even is from watching The West Wing about 20 times. I certainly don't know any real life incumbent. 1
Banana 859 Posted August 21, 2019 I’m not entirely sure what compelled you guys to demonstrate your ignorance of fairly popular deathpool picks. Like I’m not claiming I know everyone mentioned, but if you read the threads or did any research you would know at least 75% of the names.

Did you miss the bits where we said we knew some of the other names only because they had been mentioned here? And no, I don't want to spend my time researching obscure people that nobody down the pub has heard of. I only pick people who are genuinely notable or interesting by my own standards. That's what dead pools used to be about.

msc 18,437 Posted August 29, 2019 Right, OK, so I think we should all thank @Spade_Cooley for taking on the DDP for 2018 and 2019, and forgoing the temptation to murder the rest of us (in game) to keep the game running. He will be returning as a player in 2020, so beware the rest of you. But the game must go on, and if TMIB's nervous breakdowns told us anything, its that the role of DDP showrunner, in these days of 500 teams, has become far too big for one man. So, Official Announcement Time: Spade's spot as DDP host will be replaced in 2020 by... The DDP Rolling Committee. We hope to have 2 or 3 people involved with the data entry bit of the game. (There is 1 other person currently dwelling on this bit, but imo the more the merrier.) This involves the use of Excel, something beyond me. Incidentally, if you CAN use Excel, and are able to help out the DDP in December and January, please PM Spade Cooley and he will add you to the general discussion. There will also be 1 or 2 folk involved in the Web Site side of things, writing up obits, dealing with emails, complaints from this forum, and so on. Hi. Unsure at this point in time if that will be a two person team, or 1 person and guest obits from players. More on this later. It will be a Rolling Committee, in that people will come and go, and the game will keep running regardless. If lots of people take 1-2 year runs in the various jobs, the game will last a lot longer than hoping 1 person doing everything doesn't crack. While I shall be writing obits and dealing with complaints (the fun bit!), I see my role as more caretaker as the DDP shifts into Committee mode. As such, I will adhere to Spade's precedent and term limit my involvement to 2 years. [By the end of those 2 years, changing the individual roles should be considerably easier than it has been.] The rules in 2020 will almost certainly remain as they are. Pan Breed shall remain in the 2020 DDP for reasons of keeping the continuous entries in a row intact, though it wont be contending for a spot near the top 50. Finally a time to pick Robert Mugabe and co... Rest of the team involved will be announced ASAP. And yes, @YoungWillz, I have noted that this is us entering the Colin Baker Era of DDP showrunners! Right, I think that's everything that needs to be known at this point in time. Although again, Excel users, to the Spade PM so we can actually *have* a DDP in 2020, so that we don't overdo the Colin analogy... 4 5
Death Impends 7,957 Posted August 29, 2019 Congratulations, msc, an excellent fit for the obit writing half of the DDP. Rolling committee for DDP was super overdue, agree. The first few years of TMIB's tenure was probably the tailend of when it could be a one-man job without being too draining.

Lady Grendel 139 Posted August 29, 2019 6 hours ago, Toast said: Well damn. Where was @Lady Grendel when we needed her to tip us off? LG reporting in! I had seen photos of him recently at local public events where he looked gaunt but as the throat cancer diagnosis was 10 years ago I thought perhaps he was going to weather the storm. Only 5 days ago Floors Castle had their massed Pipes and Drums day, as anyone who has read my posts knows I live beside the Duke's estate and get to see the pomp and ceremony stuff that goes on, only last weekend we had The Carriage Club of Great Britain drive by in their full regalia pretending to be Lords and Ladies as they drove along the streets of Kelso, they slightly gave away the fact they are not actually posh by the fact they had their smartphones out filming their approach to the 'Golden Gates'of Floors while dressed as nobility. The castle and its grounds are closed now until further notice but hopefully they will get their act together and reopen for the Food Festival scheduled to be held there in 2 weeks time as I have tickets for that and the food and gin samples are pretty much top of my priorities in my middle age, stuff mourning a member of the aristocracy.
