Thatcher 2,329 Posted January 19, 2023 Founder of Consequence (music/tv/pop culture) outlet says false. Whether he’s just stating the obvious or he has checked I don’t know.
Thatcher 2,329 Posted January 19, 2023 NBC runs it with a wire from AP. Variety also runs it. Seems legit. Obituaries: Metro, BBC, Guardian, Daily Star

I'll believe it when his social media accounts post news. Edit: The Variety article says his wife gave them the statement, so maybe it is true?
tracy 2,378 Posted January 19, 2023 It's real. Variety obit. Quotes his wife directly. EDIT: Also, I just saw the statement was always up on Newsdirect's site. They were dissed in this thread earlier, but if you google their founder, he has loads of PR experience and definitely wouldn't publish bullshit. My question is... given their releases get automatically scraped, what the hell took so long for the other sources?

Normally PR companies send statements via email to news media but I am not sure that was the case here. Feels like Variety and AP might well have had to get confirmation before publishing it. Also Variety clearly had a prepared obituary ready for him.
Summer in Transylvania 2,134 Posted January 19, 2023 BBC Obit.
The Old Crem 3,574 Posted January 19, 2023 BBC somewhat unusually ahead of Sky - relatively rare particularly for an American star.

I went looking through newsdirect's site, and they don't seem to release obits very often. The only other one I came across was Herbert Kohler Jr. back in September. Explains the... strange, I guess, rollout of this news.

That's the third time it has happened in the last few months, I have taken to making a note of the links I post nowadays, and even when I'm absolutely sure of their content still they redirect to the page I post them on. Baffling, absolutely baffling.

He didn’t seem very unwell. Where does this rank on quickest death after being dropped? 19 days can’t have been beaten many times if at all. Could it be the quickest ever?

tracy 2,378 Posted January 19, 2023 On the subject of useless stats: how many other DL misses were dropped after three or more consecutive appearances? I know Alec Guinness was on his fourth or something before he was dropped and missed, but most of the others seem to be capped at two.

maryportfuncity 10,616 Posted January 19, 2023 So, the sweepstake starts - how many of SNY will show up at the funeral? He and Nash fell out bigtime and his broadsides towards Young were still ongoing in the recent past. That said, I'm thinking they'll all be there, though Daryl Hannah will give it a swerve.
