End of days. That's what it is. End of days. The Mayans were right.

No! Keep it at 50. Dunns done. I always thought it was a waste of time putting him on the list year after year. OK, so we got it right this time. No reason to make the deathlist 49.

It'll come naturally. Actually could we retire number 50 for 2013 out of respect?

Breaching the resource limit of the site is a fitting tribute to the Dunnster. The big question now is surely, do we adopt another poster boy/girl (like Dickie O) or leave the position vacant as a tribute to a true one-off?

25 years ago I had a dream... and finally it has come true Phew!

Soon he'll have some free time so we could send Rowan Williams on lecture tour of Southern states. Poor Rowan would be suspected of being an atheistic communist down there. They'd chase him out with a shotgun.

The death of Clive has brought me back after a (too) long absence, to pay my respects. The word legend is bandied about too easily these days, yet the number of tributes here surely mark the passing of one - a man who headed the inaugral deathlist, and for 25 years nurtured the belief that immortality was a distinct possibility. When planning Winston Churchills funeral, the army codenamed it Operation Hope Not. I would like to think that most Deartlisters had the same codename for Clive's passing. There has been mention of retiring the 50 slot in tribute - a much more fitting tribute would be to retire the slot Clive occupied 25 years ago, in the first deathlist - number 1.

Maybe every November the 7th each year we can all for that day change your profile pic to don't panic or a pic of clive dunn . That way each year he will be remembered. Also could turn dunn's thread into a memorial thread and pin it at the top of the forums .

Ya dancer!!!! Nerves are shredded here, what a result. I don't often wish I lived back in Glasgow but I wish I was there tonight, the city will be bouncing

I agree, this is the only sensible approach. I don't think you can have a "new" Dunny, forcing the mantle on O'Sullivan or Biggs doesn't seem right somehow. Or even David Jason, who like Dunny, played old men long before he became one. You could also make a case for Ian Lavender, or if you want to keep someone on for years from the first deathlist, why not Andrea De Cesaris? But you're either best off picking 50 names for the right reasons, or permanently having 49.

I thought the end of the World was in December, not today?? I go for the 49 option, and retire Dunnie's jersey. After all, it's not as if the DL has had 50 all the way through... and to be honest, is never going to get 50 out of 50. RIP, a remarkable man, who, when I think of his work, only makes me smile. That I feel is a decent legacy.

Sad for those close to him, but what a lovely chap bringing so much fun to landmark television programmes. Won't be the same DL but I feel we really should have a full 50 names every year and use the number 50 slot for just the type of wonderful British character actor like Clive Dunn who we all just don't want to lose.

He is one long-time candidate who has openly acknowledged this sites existence, and rather than denouncing it seemed most flattered

    I'd vote for Ronnie Biggs

Indeed, he's racked up a similar number of appearances over the years

It'll have to come over time. It's not something you can impose. But yeah, there's only one Clive Dunn If there's one guy on the list that's closest to the Dunn role, it's Biggs

Can't believe that the world's most famous studio for children's films are taking control of a franchise of films aimed at children.
