I was once professionally employed to write entries for a rock reference book and her birthdate - as in the year of her birth - proved somewhat elusive. One school of thought suggests she's two years older than she says. Maybe we should cut her in half and count the rings.

Blimey, I don't even like cricket, almost as dull as golf, and I'd never heard of this chap but this has had me pretty choked up this morning for some reason, a total split second freak injury. Just goes to show you never know what's around the corner for you.

I think we should have three counts: 1. Last person born in the 19th Century. 2. Last person who was born while Queen Vic was still alive. 3. Last person born while Queen Vic was still alive who was also one of Queen Vic's subjects. EDIT: I just did the research and we have 1. 6 people verified to have been born in the 19th Century if you count 1 Jan 1900 as the beginning of the twentieth century. 1A. 14 people verified to have been born in the 19th Century if you count 1 Jan 1901 as the beginning of the twentieth century. 2. Likewise, 14 people verified to have been born whilst Queen Vic was still alive. 3. 2 people (Ethel and Violet) who were subjects of Queen Vic.

I was watching a Norwegian programme the other day and they were referring to the Victorian age in relation to their own country, so make of that what you will...

You have to imagine this in the same tones as the movie, Freaks, but...one of us, one of us...

Haven't seen that one. I think the Doctor should have been more anti-military, not less. My word, some of you Brits certainly are passionate about the show! Please... don't paint all Brits with such a broad brush, we're not all the same. I don't stereotype about you kangaroo fuckers do I? But we are!

I know it will never happen for commercial reasons, but I'd love a "back to basics" approach with a lot more historical adventures with no SF elements, like an updated version of the Hartnell era.

Definite realignment of the series to be sure but then Dr Who has always done that. I didn't get all that antimilitary nonsense from the Doctor either. I was watching the Horror channel the other day and it had 'The Robots of Death' from 1977. Now there was a Dr Who story, the absolute business!

Surely to qualify as a "Victorian", you have to have been a subject of the monarch of the day. Therefore there are only 2 - the UK's Ethel Lang, and Violet Brown from Jamaica, who is a little older. Hopefully Ethel outlives the Jamaican lady, only seen appropriate that the last Victorian alive is from Britain! How very imperialistic of you! I am going to cheer on the colonies now because of that. Hang in there, Violet!

I wish Steven Moffatt would hurry up and die after that last season. That was absolutely atrocious. I know he had his critics in his first few seasons but I liked some of his early work but that season just gone has completely alienated me from the show. It felt like he was undermining everything good about Dr Who and committing mass character assassination. Unwatchable dreck. The last series was the first for a few years that I've watched every episode; there were a couple of duff episodes but overall I didn't think it too bad - certainly better than some of the crap Russell T Davies served up. I think part of the problem is trying to get a complete story into 45-50 minutes.

Why is it Aussies are always so harsh about Dr Who? They never seem to have a good word for it! Same with American fans. I've always thought they were more picky than UK fans, perhaps we're biased seeing as we make the show. I thought the last series was more consistent than series 7 but it certainly wasn't crap.
