Despite his ill health, as if they aren't going to support him because of it? wtf?

To be honest I would rather have been defeated by a large margin than by a single Lisa Magill point. It is this games equivalent of diving to get a penalty. Good like RadGuy for the next round.

Hahaha, no, as by picking Tails you are getting the advantage of pushing him towards Heads. Although, I have now committed to the check, and can confirm the following details tonight if there is a draw: Captain Chorizo will be Heads, Grim Up North will be Tails. Deadsox will be Tails, Pedro will be Heads. On the luck of the draw, you get your wish there, on the flip of the coin. Well, I suppose it was 50/50...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-4364468/Wheelchair-bound-Eric-Clapton-71-looks-frail.html Spotted this article on Eric Clapton being in frail health and couldn't find a specific Eric Clapton thread in which to post it which surprised me so I decided it was time to start one for this musical legendary.

He is actually 72 years old and not 71. Happy Birthday, dear Eric! One of the greatest guitarist.

I would probably watch the majority of those above the actual films.

Switch or DDT vs Rad Guy or Bibliogryphon Roverandout or Gcreptile vs The Dead Cow or Death Impends Maryportfuncity or Spade Cooley vs Deadsox or Pedro67 Captain Chorizo or Grim Up North vs Heef or Garn2 Players in bold have teams in now. Sent out friendly reminders to the other folk, bar the one person who needs 3 hits in 14 and a bit hours to advance. Sorry, Rover! I also found Grim's team as the forum hadn't sent me a notification of its arrival. Must admit I also took a look at Gcreptile's squad and thought to myself: "Right, which of you lot are going to be dead within 24 hours then?"

I guess that's the other point. You are obviously a fairly big SF fan and the trailers haven't motivated you to see Valerian at the cinema. If even SF fans aren't that interested, let alone the casual public, this is going to bomb and bomb badly. I am torn between being sad about this because I would love to see a French SF classic do well but half happy because it has clearly been Americanized into a militaristic action shoot-'em-up. I was holding onto a very slim hope that if it did well and went mainstream it could prove a viable alternative franchise to Star Warsfor youngsters (that was always going to be a very long shot though.)

Wow. I must be psychic. I hadn't seen any news on Eric but I was just thinking last night that his booze-and-drugs past must be due to catch up with him and I was contemplating starting a thread on him. Maybe it was a subconscious association because I was posting in the Phil Collins thread the other day or because of Chuck Berry's passing but it is a bit eerie to see this thread here now.

Totally agree. Why the hell did anyone think of remaking Watership Down with modern liberal sensibilities, removing the basic premise that for such creatures like can be cruel, unkind and unfair. I think mollycoddled kids could learn a lot from watching the original Watership Down from the 70s. There's no need to mess with this stuff, leave it alone. It makes me glad that some authors refuse to let filmmakers tinker with their source material (e.g. Keri Hulme)

I am hoping it is just his severe bout of bronchitis that has made him so frail.I do worry it is more than that. Then again bronchitis can be bloody awful.

Christ he looks absolutely terrible.Would not have recognised him. This makes me very sad:(

I've got a coin, I'll flip to determine who is Heads and who is Tails, and then you get best of 5. Penalty shootout style. Unless the Reaper has other plans.

Obviously he's still alive but this thread seems as good a place as any. The controversial ruling about the bloke who escaped jail after beating his wife with a cricket bat named Mustafa Bashir (must-have-a-bash-here) as the culprit. Just me, then?

Who let this thread die?! This is the funniest shit I've read in months.... Years! On the verge of science discovering feasible time travel, the whole project gets bogged down in political red tape: "Interstaller". A routine military test flight reveals a far greater threat than opposing human forces when the USAF is attacked by simians at 30,000 feet: "Dawn of the Planes of the Apes". A man leaves his adoring family for a weekend holiday in Belarus only to return over a decade later: "12 Years a Slav". Ben Affleck stars as a man who is constantly linked to women who keep disappearing -- albeit little by little -- as he has a fetish for anorexia: "Bone Girl". Once the last of Angela McCourt's 'fahking cunts' (children) leaves home, she settles on three acres and begins raising livestock: "Angela's Asses". Hey it's midnight, best I could do in 15 minutes top of my head. But this thread needed rebooting. SC

I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where, uh, Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as, uh, anything I've heard in rock. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and, uh, Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist.
