3 pointsThe rules: Submit a list of 26 soon-to-croak people to me via PM. The first name or last name of the first person must begin with an A. Second person with a B. You get the idea. Since I have decided to try the PM idea there will be no protected names this year, or jokers. No need for them. Qualifying names will be those getting an obit by sources used by the Windy City Deadpool, also found on its own thread at this site. That pool, in turn, uses the obit sources of the Derby Dead Pool, but adds US sources ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox networks to make it more Yank friendly. I will also throw in CNN, The New York Times and the LA Times as legit obit sources. Also this year, the Associated Press. Since I do not regularly access any of the European obit sources, please police your own obits if they are not likely to pop up in the US sources. Scoring: A hit using the first name (all letters except as below) - 1 pt A hit using the last name (all letters except as below) - 2 pts A hit with the first name . . . (A, E, I, O, U, Y) - 2 pts (note V is not a premium letter this year) A hit with the last name . . . (A, E, I, O, U, Y) - 3 pts A hit with the first OR last name . . . (Q, X, Z) - 4 pts A hit with an alliterative name scores the points for both first and last names as specified above (so an alliterative at the A spot would be worth 5 pts, the B spot would be worth 3 pts, the Q spot would be worth 8 pts) Bonus pts: Person was born in the year 1938 or later - 2 pts IF we get 10 or more entries, bonus points for solos = 3 pts, and duos = 1 pt (We ended up with 18 entries) New for 2018: All Vowel Bonus - hit all 5 vowels using LAST names = 5 pts / hit any 4 vowels using last names + the letter Y = 4 pts Example: if someone gets a solo hit with Zadora Zephyr, who was born in 1940 (assuming 10+ entries), the score would be 8+2+3=13 (the best you could do with one hit). Ties will be broken by the date the final score is reached. That is, if 3 folks end up with 18 points, the person that got to 18 on the earliest date will be the winner. My list was PM'd to YoungWillz, the first entry I got. The competition will start July 1 (all lists must be PM'd by the end of Jun 30) and end Jun 30, 2019. If any names die before the contest begins, I will ask for a replacement at that letter. Names at other letters may not be shuffled to accommodate the replacement. Enjoy!

2 pointsUpdate #14 Hits: 6 June - Teddy Johnson (b. 1920) - Bibliogryphon 8 June - Danny Kirwan (b. 1950) - Toast 18 June - Big Van Vader (b. 1955) - Wormfarmer 21 June - Johnny Hubbard (b. 1930) - msc Scoreboard: gcreptile 889 msc 733 CaptainChorizo 705 Grim Up North 695 drol 658 DeathImpends 650 Joey Russ 636 Book 600 Sean 593 Prophet 541 DevonDeathTrip 525 Banana 412 FixedBusiness 379 The Unknown Man 338 Toast 319 Torva Messor 251 Wormfarmer 204 John Key 178 YoungWillz 164 Gooseberry Crumble 100 Grigori 80 mr.whit 43 Bibliogryphon 38 A flurry of unique hits, but still enough for a pretty big change: msc moves into 2nd. In other news, the transfer day is soon approaching. Here's a quick review of the rules: On the day of June 30th, from 00:00GMT to 23:59GMT, you can exchange up to 5 names from your team for different names. You don't have to do 5, you can do 4, 3, 2, 1, or even make no changes at all. It is up to you. But 5 is the maximum. Your changes must be posted in this thread - not thru PM - in the 24 hour period stated above. Your changes will "go live" at 00:00 GMT July 1st. Now, for the specifics. You can not transfer out a name that died (why would you want to anyway?). You can not transfer out a name that didn't get an obit. They're stuck on your team forever. *evil laugh* You also can not change your joker for a different joker. Whoever you picked at the beginning of the year will be your joker for the next 6 months as well. So, to answer GUN's question - I've decided you can't "lose" your joker either, as in transfer them out and continue in the game without a joker. Basically, no joker changes at all. If you transfered somebody out, and it is later announced that they died in June or earlier, you don't get points even if they were technically still on your team at the time of their death. What matters is that they weren't on your team anymore at the time of their death announcement. I want all of you to provide 1 substitute when you make your post with the transfers, because if you transfer somebody in, and they are announced within 48 hours of your transfers being posted (so sometime on July 2nd GMT) to have died in June or earlier, they will be replaced on your team with your substitute. However, if it takes more than 48 hours after the posting of your transfers for their death to be announced, they will stay on your team and no substitutions will be made. You'll just not get any points. Ok, I hope that covers it all. I probably won't post anymore reminders about the transfer day. I trust y'all to remember it when it comes and to post your changes.

1 pointDeathlist Tips: I search using surnames only if possible, as first names are often contracted. Also, if he's been dead a while, it's worth checking the thread for around that time to see if it's been posted there already.

1 pointI think that John "Mad Jack" Mytton would have had a good thread here. This was a man who arrived at Cambridge University with 2000 bottles of port in his luggage and who later set fire to his own pyjamas to try and stop hiccuping. Died of drink aged 37 in a debtors prison.

1 pointAnd now her father Earl "Frank" Brosnahan Jr. joins her. Dead at 89. What number do we call this time? Unlike her, he didn't leave behind a daughter. Bwa ha ha...too soon? SC

1 pointHere’s something a happy thing for this thread for a change: My grandparents (the ones that I stay at on my vacation) owned a dog for six years. Neither of them really want him, so our family is now getting him. His name is Scamp, and he’s a very lovely dog. Here’s a picture of him (and yes, that is my hand petting him).

1 pointI reckon she is unwell. She has completely vanished from public sight and is never mentioned anymore. She until 3 years ago was always out and about. No reps have rebuked tabloid headlines. You also never see her photographed anymore.I reckon the dementia rumours are true given her age and the fact she has gone from completely in to completely out of the public eye.

1 pointOf course Poland loses to Senegal. My dad was right... This should've been expected. The overpaid cunts didn't even try... they're treating the World Cup as a relaxing vacation from their club careers. Whatever happened to making your country proud?

1 pointI can't understand the idea that the legalisation of something less dangerous than alcohol is the world going to shit...
-
1 pointOh bloody hell, you've stepped out of the 1950s. Stoners are not junkies. Legalise it all and regulate it so everybody knows what they're getting, not to mention the tax opportunities. No doubt it will happen one day.

1 pointSo way back when I got married and like the Brady Bunch we each brought a dog into the relationship. Mine died 2004. So 13+ years ago my then wife's dog died, and I laid down the law 'no new dogs' for a while cuz we can't travel etc. Which meant two days later we had a lab-shepherd mix named Ruby. Ex-wife posted that Ruby died yesterday, 13+ years. She was a good girl -- dog wasn't bad either. Anyway, Ruby the Thug as I called her had a good run. RIP. SC
