She surpassed Franz Joseph I of Austria, as she has been reigning for 24.826 days. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_longest-reigning_monarchs

I am sure that there are millions like me who have no interest or knowledge of US sports persons.

I hadn't. So as far as I'm concerned, he isn't a major death. I'd be curious to know how many people in the UK had heard of him.

By the same token I am sure there are millions of people with no interest or knowledge of tennis, but if Roger Federer or Rafa Nadal died in a plane crash next week it would still register as a significantly bigger impact death to the public then Peart .

If on a personal level Peart is the bigger death, that’s fine, but objectively there’s no way that he tops Bryant (or Terry Jones for that matter) as the biggest death of the month.

I know why American politzi get run over. We have shite driving habits. Here’s a shot taken by SirC as he and Boudicca cross the Skye Bridge. He is driving, wrong side of car wrong side of road, steering with his knees so he can take this photo to one day post on DL. Coulda plunged to our deaths. Or run over a cop. All sorts of bad American driving habits going on here. SC

When someone's death musters 6 pages of conversation in hours then that's usually a sign a standalone thread is warranted.

I'd think that a theme team has to reasonably be some kind of small minority to be picking from. Allowing a team that can be picked from ~50% of the world's population doesn't seem particularly on. But, it depends whether the theme team league is a "fun" thing or a competitive thing. Let's get statistical and weight teams based on the percentage of the overall population that their team consists of. Therefore, a hit in the "all male" or "all woman" team might be weighted at 0.5 based on women/men being approx. 50% of the population. Then, on the other hand, selecting a team from the cast and crew of the 70s film for masochistic children, Watership Down (like my better half did a couple of years back) would afford each hit a weighting of ~100/7.5bn. So, if Ray Merrin had received a QO, then he'd have been worth the standard number of points divided by (100/7.5x10^9) which would have meant Merrin would have scored ~3*10^8 points for her (300,000,000) compared to only 8 points for the hypothetical person selecting Merrin for their all male theme team. I think we can all agree that the simplicity and satisfaction in appropriately awarding niche teams would go a long way towards making the Theme Team League a more highly respected competition.

For the people calling this the biggest death since Michael Jackson. Let's not excagurate. From my non-American perspective it is not even the biggest death of 2020 (so far).

So with Kobe dead, does Kirk regain his throne as the most famous living *gets dragged off-stage by 3,000 lawyers*

From the UK and totally disinterested in Basketball but I'd heard of him in the same way I'd heard of Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson. RIP to all who died

GAA Ulster Coach of the Year Sonia Kinsella (47) passed away at her home in Saul on Saturday, just months after learning no further treatment options were available. She was a sleeper for Cup play and a late cut for DDP (honestly should have fielded her). I see @gcreptile has her in Death By Numbers. Well done. SC

Mental illness 'exists' in three ways, unfortunately: the sense of genuine instability/frailty that can't be helped, but also as a label that both cunts/attention seekers give themselves, and cunts/virtue signallers give to other people because they're too "decent" to immediately assume a cunt is a cunt. Let's be clear, Sugar is a cunt that sometimes appears mentally ill, rather than a mentally ill person that sometimes appears to be a cunt.

Well mentally ill is just a nice byword or 'irritating cunt' these days isn't it?? Like a get out of jail free card for irredeemable twats, the mentally ill acceptance movement needs stamping on to be fucking host. Like the body positive movement and the trans rights movement.... fuck em all..... you're a cunt - end of. Why should the rest of us have to bend to your irritating cuntness just because you convinced a brainwashed doctor to diagnose you with mental spasticity?? People who are genuinely mentally ill are locked up institutions....

He is! Is he going to stop driving in case he's involved in a car crash as well?

I think we have almost the exact opposite opinions.... Last week: shit faux historical, bumbling character assassination of historical assassin and companions.... This week: Now we're fucking getting somewhere. CAPTAIN JACK YES. RUTH IS CANNON AND POSSIBLY PRE-HARTNELL BEEN WAITING A LONG TIME!!!!! CYBERMEN FORESHADOWING. I don't think Ruth is pre-Hartnell though, reckon she's a future Doctor but doesn't recognise the Doctor because at some point Gallifrey gets restored and 13 is captured and mind-wiped to do the bidding of the evil Master timelords.....
